Hi. I would like some advice on ME. I have been feeling really exhausted for a while now and everytime I do something like exercise of a long walk or something, I am completely exhausted the next day. I seem to get tired really easy.

The thing is, when I went to docs a few months ago, he decided I was depressed and put me on anti-depressants. I have been on and off these since as I dont actually think I'm depressed. Now, though when I try to explain to him that I am not depressed, he just seems to ignore what I'm saying and gives me more tablets!!

My question is, how did you know you had ME? What symptoms have you got? Sorry to be nosey. I just wanted a bit of advice.

Try this thread for starters. If I can find more, I'll put the link in a new post. HTH.

Hello. Sorry to hear that you are feeling so rubbish. I was diagnosed after maybe 6 months of ill health. Had health problems like recurring UTIs before that and had put symptoms down to that. I eventually came down with a cough/cold virus that I never recovered from. Symptoms were extreme fatigue that was not alleviated by rest (could not get out of bed some days), muscular and joint pain, headaches, swollen glands and lymph nodes, digestive problems, insomnia, alchohol intolerance and difficulties in concentration, memory etc. The problem is that a lot of these symptoms are common with depression. I was lucky in that the GP I saw was very understanding and accepted it when I insisted I wasn't depressed and diagnosed chronic fatigue syndrome. I was then referred to a specialist.

I would be firm with your GP re the depression diagnosis and maybe keep a diary of day to day activities and symptoms to take with you. It can also help you identify any patterns as I found that there were definite triggers for bad spells. Ask for a thyroid test too as underactive thyroid can cause extreme tiredness. HTH.

I don't know if you've had your thyroid checked. That might be worth looking into.

another thread which might be worth you reading

I don't want to hijack this thread, but is it possible to experience ME for a couple of months, following flu (and labyrinthitis- which affects the inner ear), and then never to have it again? i had a a terrible experience with ME like symptoms 5 years ago, and never got the bottom of why it took so long to get better.

i do hope your own symtoms improve soon.

I am getting blood tests done next week. The doctor has been putting every one of my symptoms down to depression until I demanded to see another doctor. At least now I am getting something done.

I am suffering with extreme tiredness. General aches and pains. Hot and cold sweats. Digestive problems. Headaches. A terrible memory, and painful lymph nodes in my left breast.

I have explained this to my doctor, but he still insists it's to do with depression.

Hopefully they will find out what is wrong next week.
