If you suffer from gallstones

When you have a gallstone attack, are you always in agony?

I've made a app at the doctors as I've been having pain under my rib area if I eat the wrong foods. I could always control it by staying clear of cheese and fried foods but the last few weeks the pain is coming more often . Everything I've read points to gallstones but I'm not in total agony, it's more a dull ache that only goes after I make myself sick and it always starts at around 4am.

Oops posted too soon! Pain of labour gives you something nice at the end I was going to say. I have been in so much pain that I've ended to in a&e having morphine!
I think you should get it checked out though, the being sick is certainly cause for concern. Maybe it is gallstones, I've just always experienced the pain.

I'd said that I would rather be in labour than have gallstone pain again, for me it was absolute agony!

Mine is like a skewer or similar going through my torso from my right side to the back.

Mine was discovered in a scan for abdominal pain that I'd assumed was ovarian/hormonal. I didn't tie up the vomiting/diarohrea (sp) symtoms until it was found.
Still have the left sided pain and above my navel, so having further investigations.

Thanks my pain is more central and usually travels round to my back, I first thought it was indigestion but none of the medication for that takes the pain away.

I'll see what the doc says on Wednesday.

When I have a gall bladder attack the pain is more in my back and it hurts like hell, and like pp I would rather go through labour again. If I can make myself throw up the pain gradually subsides until it feels like I've strained a muscle and it aches for a few days gradually going away. I've been told the severe pain is a stone getting stuck in the bile duct or something or other,
Fatty foods will cause issue, usually I get a bit of heartburn and discomfort after a fatty meal, I can go weeks without any pain though, if you are in constant pain be on the look out for infection which can be serious.

Mine was more like yours, never agony. It was infected and made me feel generally crummy til it was whipped out.

I didn't have too many attacks until just before I had my gallbladder out but each time I was in agony. I can remember telling my DH that I was dying and wishing it would hurry up. Luckily the attacks were quite short until the last one when I ended up in A & E.
