Hi, my DD2 aged 20months has got Chickenpox.

I have been giving her calpol and piriton (because she is under 2 she can only have one dose of this).

My DD is feeling very poorly. She is lethargic, only wants to watch tele or be carried around on my/dh hip.

So, has anyone got any tips? What can I do to soothe her? She has got a particulary nasty spot on her side which she says 'hurts'.

Looking forward to your responses..... Thanks.

You can use calamine for the spots, but the lotion is drying and can make the itching worse. Calamine cream is better than the lotion - Boots do a calamine and glycerine cream, or you can buy Caladryl cream over the counter.

Get some porridge oats, put them into the foot of an old sock or pair of tights, and hang it from the tap when you run her bath, it's very soothing.

Thank you for the tips WWB.

I have just been up to the chemist and brought some calamine cream.

I can't believe the calamine lotion can make itching worse - it has been recommended for years hasn't it?

Eurax lotion is pretty good on chickenpox. Caladryl is now called Benadryl cream and isn't licensed for use in chickenpox.
