I had a total hysterectomy last Tuesday, I was in surgery for nearly five hours then a lot of morphine, codeine etc afterwards. I was dreading the effect this would have on my IBS and today I have had a absolutely horrendous attack that none of my meds seemed to touch.

After half an hour of sweating, shaking and agony it eased off a little but I can still feel the pain lurking. Has anyone got any tips to help post op? I've been in bed since the op as too sore to move about much. I've been eating healthily and taking Movical to try to get things moving. Dreading having this every day.

If you've been in bed for a week because of the pain you need to ring GP or hospital for advice in managing it .

Being mobile and moving around are needed to get your bowels working . How much Movicol are you taking - I think you can take up to 8 sachets a day for severe constipation /impaction .

I feel your pain - IBS and constipation are hell .

Maybe you should get it checked out just in case it's something like adhesions (scar tissue) causing problems.
