How can I get a doctor that does Essure sterilisation in UK?

Hi,

I'm considering sterilisation after new baby. I have one dd already, am 43, do not want any more children (no matter what!) and don't want to risk getting pg.

I've heard about Essure where they block the tubes, but which is done vaginally so no invasive sugery and quick recovery.

Is this available in the NHS? Or does anyone know where and how much it costs privately please?

www.essure.co.uk should be able to tell you anything you need to know

Just read a BBC article on this as you have my interest 7 it's not currently licensed in UK or USA so not sure where you would be able to get help with it. Read more on news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/2146668.stm

Hi Stevie,

Thanks for the link. The bbc article is from 2002, and I know that it has since been approved by NICE in the UK. They have some guidelines on tubal cannulation (e.g. sterilisation by blocking the tubes, such as essure) they issued in 2004:

NICE

I guess it's a case of speaking to Essure and my GP to see which hospitals in the UK offer it.

Thanks
