A lump- what happens now?

I found a lump in my breast and this week the gp referred me the hospital for scan and biopsy at the hospital. I got a phone call that same day from the hospital arranging the appointment for 2 weeks time. I am very worried as I have a lot of history cancer in my family. Never with a good outcome.

Anyway. What happens after the lump is examined? The following week we go on a month long holiday (sounds a lot more extravagant than it is but me and dcs are looking forward to it so much). How quick does treatment happen? Will I need to cancel holiday? return early? Does treatment tend to start a while after diagnosis anyway. I have no idea.

Don't get me wrong I'm scared about what the lump means but I'm trying to focus on this first!

Thank you

hi zippy - hopefully you will have nothing to worry about but you will probably get an indication if they are concerned at the initial appt with any biopsy results to be collected a week later.
If you do get bad news treatment usually starts fairly quickly but the drs will work with you as a team and if your holiday is a priority they will work round it. If you are going to have treatment you will be in it for the long-haul so they will not be adverse to you getting a holiday in first (not sure about a month though!!).

Thank you for your response. My appointment is 10 days before I go away. I hope I can get the results before I go. If needs be I guess I could just go for a week or two and then return?

I feel silly worrying about the holiday when I have 2 very young dcs and the bigger picture is scarier.

Zippy fingers crossed all will be fine. If not I had to wait a month from diagnosis to op so you might still be able to go on your holiday

Zippy

My dm had a lump spotted on her regular mammogram. She was sent to hospital for a biopsy within two weeks and then we had a further two week wait for results.

Sadly for her this is the second time she has been diagnosed with cancer.

The hospital told her that any treatment had to start within 28 days due to hospital guidelines.

The first time around she went on her pre planned holiday first as advised by her consultant.

I hope it's nothing in you case and you can go on and enjoy your holiday Smile
