hi folks, apologies for the grim post, but i need a bit of advice. i'm a first time mum and my 9 week old baby hasn't been for a poo in 2 days. she doesn't seem to be in any discomfort from it (possibly a mild tummy ache) and given that, is this something i should be worried about or is it normal?

If she is bottle feed she may need a bit extra water. Now, DS pooed in alternate days (I suspect he still has the tendency at 3 yrs old). He was fine, not optimal but... I have treid everything without success, guess that's the way he is.

I think you should not worry much about today or tomorrow, but expect her to poo for England when she finally does.

you can boiled a lot water and dry pruns, and you can give him 1 oz of this, this will work with no problem, I did it with my baby since he was 1 month old

I called my hv when ds was only a few days old as he hadn't pooed for a couple of days and was breastfeed. She said its quite normal and some babies can go up to 7 days without going - 10 days some of you wow!! I wouldn't like to be out and about with a baby with a 10 day old poo explosion!!!!! Would also be likely to be the day the wipes run out !!

My little one is breast fed and would only poo once every 3 days. Unfortunately she was in a great deal of discomfort on the last day before the poo appeared. We were assured that this was normal. However we took her to an osteopath (for something else) and he treated her for this problem. Between going to the session and going to bed that night she did two poos and has been pooing daily with no discomfort ever since.

have you tried enrolling in a baby massage class? the massage routine includes strokes for the tummy which helps with colic, trapped wind, and constipation. other benefits of the massage include the stimulation of the digestive/respiratory/immune systems, and better (and longer) periods of sleep for your baby. i've tried it, and it worked for both my children.
