Sorry in advance if TMI!

For a while now I've had this odd looking thing inside my vagina, when I have sex or pleasure myself I can feel it and it's quite uncomfortable.
I'm sure it wasn't there years ago, but I must admit I don't look down there very often!

I just assumed it was normal and I'd forgotten, but it feels odd, I don't remember having to push anything out of the way, but I don't know if that's normal with age. I don't know what they are supposed to look like!!

I had a smear about 6 months ago and the nurse didn't say anything was not right, but would she necessarily have said something? I didn't tell her anything was giving me issues as I was convinced I was over-reacting.

I'm not a prude as such but it takes all my might to get a smear done, I really don't want to have a dr looking up there and touching me unless it really is necessary (I know it's daft!)

Any advice? I was thinking I might just get one of those pelvic floor devices but don't want to do more harm than good.

When you say "something" - what do you mean? Is it like something bulging/bulging out?

Try googling rectocele and cystocele. They are both forms of prolapse. The rectoclele is where the bowel wall bulges into the vagina and a cystocele is where the bladder does the same.

Either way, there is nothing to be ashamed of. Go and see your GP and, depending on the severity, they may refer you to a gynaecologist, urologist, or specialist physio.

I don't know what this is, but it's not as it should be if wasn't there before, so you should see a doctor.

Littlefish - yes it's a bulge, not hanging out or anything, but I can see it when I lay back and look in a mirror.

After googling those two it does look similar, a very mild case though. Oh god I'm actually going to have to go to the dr now aren't I!? This is going to be hideous.

Thank you though, you've been most helpful.

Be brave, Elephant. Take a deep breath and go and see your GP.

My GP was lovely to me when I went - can you see a female GP, or take a friend with you?

It really is a very common thing. There's a brilliant thread on here with lots of information - I'll see if I can find it and put a link here for you.

Thank you! I guess it's just that I'm overweight (probably how I got it) which just makes me feel awful. But you're right its something they will deal with often enough. I'll request a female GP, might make it a bit easier.

No-one I can take with me other than husband, but I'm not sure I want him there.... He's more of a worrier than me haha!

My sister told me about a lump she'd found, when she finally braved up to go to doctor it turned out to be nothing. Better safe than sorry tho wink

ElephantsCantTango Wed 23-Apr-14 20:42:14

You're absolutely right Coffee, I really need to see a Dr.

Fingers crossed its a simple issue and simple fix, no point in worrying when I don't know the facts yet (if I say it often enough I might believe it grin )

Littlefish Wed 23-Apr-14 20:45:17

Elephant, I'm overweight too and my GP always mentions it! Grrrrr. However, in this instance, she didn't mention it at all.

Prolapses can be caused by lots of things - childbirth, having lots of babies, constipation, etc.

ElephantsCantTango Wed 23-Apr-14 20:50:47

I don't have children, have always had constipation problems and being overweight hasn't helped I expect.

Me and DH were talking about babies and trying soonish, that's kind of why I suddenly got so worried about this, I don't want to make it worse having children before it's fixed, or even if it's even something a dr will fix if she knows I want children in the near future.

I will give the Drs a call in the morning and book in

Littlefish Wed 23-Apr-14 20:56:33

Definitely get it looked at sooner rather than later. Let me know how you get on. PM me if you'd rather not put it on here. Good luck.
