Fungal nail infection and Vicks!

Thank you mumsnetters!
I have been trying to get rid of this for nearly three years with curanail and something prescribed by the doctor which I think was effectively the same thing to no avail. In fact it seemed to be getting worse.

In frustration at the lack of progress after so much time I searched mumsnet and found the Vicks vapour rub suggestion and it has almost disappeared.

Thanks a million, my may now be unveiled to the public without too much horror!

Did you file the nail before putting it on and how often/how long has it taken?

My pinky toenail is looking much healthier. Have been using Vicks twice a day for about a month now. Should be clear in time for wearing sandals in the better weather.

Initially no I did not file, however I had been filing before at least once a week whilst using the curanail stuff. It has taken around three maybe four months and I think it may take another month before it grows out completely. For the last month I decided to file the nail as well and that seems to have speeded things along as well.

I was putting it on as much as possible though, at least twice sometimes three times a day.

I cut a cotton bud in half and leave it in the tub. Use it morning and night to smear it all over and under the toenail. Put on sock if going out or slob about in flip flops at home. Weirdly, it works.

Countess do you just file it lightly over the surface of the nail or under the edge IYKWIM?

Lightly over the nail justmuddling. The infected part is breaking off now as well. Sounds disgusting I know!
