Swollen feeling in throat?

I think my thyroid may be buggered! Before Xmas I was really unwell, lethargic, lightheaded and lost weight unexpectedly. I had full bloods done as GP thought it might be thyroid/iron/b12, but all bloods came back apparently normal. I started feeling better, although a lot was going on and I was busy an just had to get on with it!

Saturday I think it was, I woke up feeling liked uvula (sp? Dangly bit in throat) was swollen and it's not gone away. It now feels like a lump in the throat sort of half way down. Other things seems to be adding up, I'm eating like a horse and not gaining any weight, I'm really itchy, sweating more particularly at night, funny feeling eyes, not sleeping well and waking early when I've always, always had to be dragged out of bed.

I'm going to book to see the GP again, but wondered if there was anything else that could cause the swollen feeling and symptoms? I hate going to the doctors, I always feel like I'm bothering them over nothing!

You can ask for a thyroid function test at your local surgery, it does not need to be a full blood test. The symptoms you give can all be explained by thyroid problems, most of the are classic symptoms. Others can be loose bowel movements, restlessness and bulging eyes. If, and I do stress if, the problem is your thyroid, the funny feeling eyes could be the start of double vision, and the damage tends to be permanent. I didn't take that particular symptom seriously at all at first, and I will have double vision for the rest of my life. There is a thread on here for those with thyroid issues, I'll see if I can find a link to it.

Thanks todays I'll have a look at that! My eyes just feel almost gritty, like they won't focus properly although that does tend to be when I'm not wearing my glasses! Just rung the docs and am going in on Wednesday. I was muchly surprised to be offered a Saturday appointment!

lem I did wonder about anxiety, but I'm a lot less anxious than I usually am and most of my usual stress has been conquered, so it doesn't seem like an anxiety thing! It kist feels like a lump that needs swallowing!

As others have said, please go and get your thyroid checked.

If there is a suggestion that you may be overactive, you will need to have TSH, FT4, FT3 and TRAb checked to be sure what is going on. Please insist on all of these otherwise the lab will try to get away with just doing TSH, which isn't even a thyroid hormone!

Also, please don't accept 'normal' as a given. If I had done this, I would be housebound and probably bedbound by now! You are entitled to a copy of your results, with the reference ranges and if you do a bit of research you will find that being within range is not enough. You need to be at the optimum point in the range, so, for example, B12 over 500, even though the range starts at about 190.
