Insect bites / eggs under the skin question (urghhhh)

OK - my mum has a red patch on her abdomen - it has got a raised pore in the centre with a hard, long, thin area directly underneath it (under the tissue) the dr's don't know what it is but we have the feeling that she has either got something still in it i.e. bite or eggs. She has taken antihistimines and is now taking antibiotics and neither have worked. She has to go back to the Dr's next week. The Dr laughed when she suggested it may have something still in it.
Any ideas??

If the bite happened in the UK, I don't think there could be eggs in it. I don't think any non-tropical bugs lay eggs in people.

sounds a little scabies, you get track marks on the skin.

It could have happened in Portugal. There's quite a distinctive open pore in the centre of the red raised area (approx 10cm x 6 cm's)

you can get the cream/lotion to treat scabies over the counter though it's unusual that there is only one 'bite' (I had quite a few when I had it but maybe some people only get one??)

you basically paint your whole body with the stuff

I would also ask the pharmacist because sometimes they are good with things like this!

do a search on the botfly as in hot countried they bit epople and leave a pore in the skin so their larvae can breathe , they fall out themselves int he end, but do an internet search in case it sounds like it

botfly sounds horrendous, surely only in tropical countries though, portugal is hardly tropical!

well it probably isn't then, is just as that is what I thought of when I read the thread. I hope it isn't

Thanks for all your thoughts - mum's just had kittens looking at botfly - much to our amusement. (Just been giggling about baiting it out with some meat)
There are some parallels with botfly - like the open pore etc and the line running underneath but not entirely convinced that that's what it could be. It really is bizarre.
