What can I do to ease dds sore thumb?

dd sucks her thumb and only the right one. It's now become sore. Any suggestions as to what I can put on it? Was thinking maybe the nail biting stuff so she may suck the other one or not at all but wonder if she's too young for it, she's almost 16 months. tia

It what way has it become sore DG, has she skinned it on her teeth?

Her top 2 teeth have come through very recently so I think that has something to do with it. hmm, acidic saliva perhaps? The pad of her thumb is very red and the creases are a bit cracked too. She doesn't seem bothered by it but it very red. She doesn't suck her thumb all the time, only when she's tired/upset usually

Ok, sounds normal, this is from a 37yr thumb sucker by the way .

If you have any lanolin or camomile cream rub a little on, both are orally safe as used with breastfeeding.

Her new teeth will leave depressions in her thumb after sucking, these will disappear and the skin will adapt.

The sucked thumb will have a slightly more fine wrinkled appearence but again quite normal.

oh thanks, actually I still have a tube of laninsoh so I'll put that on it when she's asleep. Currently singing in her cot . I used to be a thumb sucker too but I don't recall having a sore thumb. Ah well, i'm sure if it hurt her, she wouldn't be doing it.

True,

DG also use the cream during the day to give it protection.

I have two thumbsuckers and it is normal for them to get sore...
mine did, and there was nothing I could do for it really as they wouldn't stop, and to be honest they weren't too bothered by it. it is wear the teeth rub i think

mine are now 12 and 10 and they both have calluses on there sucking thumbs....

if you do go for something on it tho, you will have to make sure it is mouth friendly as she will suck it still.

My DS had the same problem at around the same age. He only ever sucks his thumb when going to sleep in his cot (ie not when sleeping in car, pushchair) so for a couple of days I made sure his daytime nap coincided with a trip in the car to give his thumb a rest. Other than that not a lot you can do.

not working so far....both sat here next to me thumbs firmly implanted!!!!

and yes, I know it is late a bedtime, but they always stay up on a friday....tis their treat for being the 'older' ones. the little ones go to bed with a dvd

am hinting about manicures......both whipped out thumbs and said....."what....we not sucking out thumbs"...trying to look most innocent!
