Just realised its 4 months today since I was diagnosed - 4 FECs and 2 Tax's down and I'm still here and just about sane!

To everyone who might still be in shock, it is do-able and we will come out the other end.

Huge hugs to Really and anyone else who might need them today.

Had to be up and dressed for 8 today to take ds to school as he's on a trip, normally he walks himself. Was quite a shock but proof that I can do it and am normally just being lazy !

I am starting to come out of the Tax fog now, only taken a week.

Wine - you sound like you might be my twin, just coming up to 4 months dx myself. Have done 6 rounds of chemo, only 2 more to go! Are you having surgery next?

Malt - I am usually still in bed at 8am. Let alone got up made myself presentable and done a school walk.

Wee - I am sure half term is a test of patience at the best of times, without adding chemo into the mix.

Hope Really is getting on okay.

Tiny I usually get up at 715 with the kids but they are both old enough to take themselves to school so by 820 I'm either back in bed or on the sofa !

Think I'm getting an earring addiction now I've got short hair, bought another pair this morning

Malt - I'm enjoying being able to see my earings .

My DCs get a bus at 7:13 so I get up at 6:30 and then am usually back in bed by 7:15!! But sometimes I have to take DS in so being ready to go by 7:15 has been quite an effort. Not quite sure what my plan will be from Monday - prior to dx I used to leave for work at 7:15 but not sure I will be doing that any more!!

I found my lump at the end of Nov. Diagnosed on 27 Dec. Had surgery mid Jan. Thankfully the cancer hasn't spread to the lymph nodes so the outcome is as good as it can be. Will have 6 cycles of chemo starting in a week and a half, during half term. Followed by radiotherapy and then Tamoxifen for what seems like the rest of my life!

Exciting times ahead!

Well GoodBits - sorry you have to join us but glad your surgery has gone well and you got decent results. What chemo are you having - presumably FEC or FEC-T? Lots of ladies here are having chemo at the moment and can help you with what to expect.

I'll be having FEC. And have already cut my hair short in preparation. For the first time since I was seven I now have shoulder length hair. I quite like it and am thinking about having a few more inches lopped off! I'll be having a pixie cut before I know it!

I am wondering whether to bother with the cold cap though. I think I would rather lose all my hair than have it all thin and patchy and wispy. I don't know... Also have a wig appt next week. I need to prepare myself for more than just hair loss I know. It's an easy thing to focus on though.

I can understand what malteserzz says about earrings - I am wearing a pair for the first time since Christmas.

GoodBits - I did the cold cap for 3 cycles of FEC and it worked to a certain extent and I did not have to wear a wig at that point. Unfortunately for me I suffered with awful nausea on FEC and the cold cap just made the process worse so i didn't continue. Several others have used it - again with varying degrees of success - they'll be along to tell you all about it. Whatever you do you're right to get a wig organised - most of us have found wig shopping to be quite good fun - take a friend if you can.

wow Lily - 8 horse pills a day - that's some achievement - lets hope it's doing it's stuff for you.

Good bits most of us have been surprised at how realistic wigs are these days, I had people who didn't know I was having chemo tell me that my hair looked good, asked if I'd had it cut etc. I did the cold cap and didn't find it as bad as I'd read, I did lose a lot of hair but never went completely bald and it has grown back quickly so I'm glad I did it.

Lily hope you don't get too many side effects

Malt - full time (and some). My job was very stressful but I am going back to something slighlty different as I said I couldn't do any out of hours work (I did 1 week in 3 on call - generally called most nights and having to work a large proportion of the weekend - with very shouty clients, so no fun).
I am doing a phased return - so every day but reduced hours but to be honest I'm not sure how that will work out in reality once things ramp up. I'm senior enough that no-one monitors my hours and I've always been able to flexible on when I work. For the 1st 4 weeks I've booked out the first and last 1.5 hrs of each day but some days I will need to use that time for travel. On the days I'm working in the local office I plan to use it to go to the gym .

Welcome Goodbits. I've just finished chemo and am currently a baldie which is getting a bit tedious now. I do have a very good wig - I've even had people ask when my hair is going to start falling out. Makes me giggle every time.

Kitkat, I'm due back at work at the start of May. So not looking forward to that. I really need to make contact with work and start talking to them about my return, but I somehow just can't be arsed. Is that a bad thing?

Hi Goodbits - we're on the same timescale and the same treatment by the sounds of it. Had surgery on 20 Jan and my first chemo will be on 18 Feb.

Meanwhile I've just finished my first week back at work after surgery and it was okay. People didn't tell me any horror stories or ask too many personal questions. I did find myself nipping to the loos to remove my bra mid-afternoon!

really I hope chemo went okay today. That was a really difficult decision you were faced with.

Goodbits I will slide the tiered cake stand over towards you! I can also say from my experience that wigs are very good and that no one who hasn't been told would realise that you are wearing a wig e.g. people where I work.
