I went for my routine smear test on Thursday and the nurse was really grouchy and was representing me for being 4 minutes late for my appointment. While I was on the table being done. She suddenly went all nice to me and asked me to stay where I was. I had seen that was the swab was incredibly red which Is new for me. The nurse had went and got a doctor to look down there and the doctor said I am to come back after next period in exactly three weeks and she said there are a few polys at top of my cervix. She mentioned sending me into hospital for surgery. Has anyone else had polyps? Should I worry cos I'm trying not to freak out...

Cervical polyps are almost invariably benign and are painless to remove. It's a quick outpatient procedure.

Have you had the procedure done? Do they numb the area? It'd the first time a smear test has hurt me.

I had cervical polyp removed a year ago, they do numb it and I was able to watch on the screen ( except I closed my eyes) Grin
The actual procedure didnt hurt, but had cramps for an hour afterwards, but I also had a coil fitted at the same time, was in and out, so to speak, in a couple of hours

I had the adiana procedure done nearly three and half year ago as a means to no longer have children as I felt three children was enough to cope with. My husband seems to think the polyp is connected to my being sterilized but I said there is no proof of it. Someone said to me me they are caused by having multiple partners but I told the lassie I've been with my partner 14 years, married 10 of those. I'm just worried that it's something serious. I'm glad they are going to numb it, my pain limit is rubbish.
