Ok, this is a slightly embarassing question but I have to ask as it's really driving me mad...

Sorry if TMI but since having my DS (by C-section) 3months ago, I've been suffering from a lot of vaginal flatulence ('fanny farts') At first I thought it was just air that got in there during the operation but I seem to get bouts of it on a regular basis (like every other day ish). I have tried googling it (a lot of strange result as you can imagine) but the only causes that I could find were sexual and it's definately NOT that..

Any wise women out there who could tell me a possible cause and/or solution? Any help appreciated.

Don't do any yoga classes

I'd imagine that you need to do lots AND LOTS of pelvis floor exercises!

I di read once that while bending/squatting down eg picking things up etc can cause you to 'suck in' the air as pelvic floor muscles become weaker while pregnant, so maybe????

I also read of one woman who seemed to have this while at an aerobics class, she was advised to squat and try to expel the air before going. I'm not 100% on this subject though, have you asked a GP?

god this is such a common problem - don't think you're alone and it can affect anyone.

it's caused by the pump action of your dh entering and leaving you. try shifting position and if that doesn't work ask him to go gently that can help.

it can be embarrassing even between couples - its funny at first and then not!

squatting doesn't help as you stand up you suck in another load of air!

thanks for posts... I did read somewhere that it can be a sign of very 'loose' muscles but I have to say I'm very good at doing my pelvic floors and DH has said that he hasn't noticed any difference down there since having DS...although we have only had sex about 3 or 4 times since DS and haven't done it in last few weeks (DS a bit colicy) so not down to that...

Aaah, I see, not during intercourse just generally? Yes down to loose muscles but you didn't have a vaginal birth so its odd?

(Btw don't be surprised if it happens during intercourse though!)

Pregnancy alone can knacker your pelvic floor muscles

All men say that they can't feel any difference

Privately they think it is like tossing a sausage down a well

MP, your partner must speak for himself! We are not all sausage flapping wells!

But I do get the fanny farting problem from time to time - not during sex though! The worst of them is that I don't seem able to control them at all, unlike the other sort....

it's happened during intercourse quite a few times and I don't mind that too much as I know the reason for it... Just hate the thought of me being 'loose' especially as I didn't have vaginal birth - dread to think what I would've been like if I had!

Guess I'll just have to double the number of pelvic floors I do... The joys of being a woman, eh?!

Dumbledoresgirl - I know what you mean about the controlling, they just come out and it's very difficult to stop them. Good thing is, they're not noisy as such (especially with jeans on) but they feel very strange and I hate not being in control of my body {angry}

oh my partner just says "it's exactly the same"

I know he is lying

When drunk he once said "It's like the Tardis - it looks small on the outside but it's big on the inside"

LOL - men, they can be so charming! Might have a word with DH later and see what he says, he'll probably try to get me to have sex with him "just to check"

Hmm, if I am the Tardis, why can't I have Dr Who inside me?

Sorry, just posted that on the off chance Expat would read and throw up her last meal in disgust!
