Virus after virus after virus

My ds (16 months) has had a virus for about 3 weeks now, or a few different viruses.
The first one was a temp for 4 days then broke out in a nasty looking rash all over his body.
The second one was similar to a cold but his breathing deteriorated so he was in hospital for a day until his breathing was a bit better, but this took several days before he stopped needing the inhaler.
Now he has sticky eyes, a temp, a rash on his legs and buttocks, runny nose, a cough and is irritable.
He saw the doctor on all occasions and they just put it down to being a virus and that it will go in it's own time.
Has anyone got any ideas on how I can help him build up his immune system so he can fight these viruses? Please help

think i would argue with the gp re wether this is a virus. I know gps are reluctant to give antibotics and i agree as you can become resistant but this seems to be continuing. You could try giving vitamin C supplements for childen, plenty fluids which is hard is a poorly child. One course of antibotics isnt going to harm them ans if it is a virus the antibotic wont make a difference and if it is bacterial then it will. HTH

Hi aideesmum

I saw your post and had to respond.

My Ds is 15 months old and is ALWAYS ill!! Since Easter he has 3 lots of tonsillitis (would not go away) which meant he was on Penecillin on and off for about a month. Then he got a nasty sick bug and recently has just had Hand Foot and Mouth disease which involved nasty mouth ulcers and blisters all over his hands and feet. He now has just got another virus which we think might be a cold virus (although no symptoms just a slight red throat). He has had temps of nearly 40 at times but the Dr says in a way that's good because it means his body is dealing with the illnesses.

It all started when I went back to work and put him in nursery las October(8 months old). He got bronchiolitis and was in hospital, tonsilitis and a string of cold viuses and sticky eyes - you name it he had it.

We took DS to the dr yesterday to see if we needed a referral since I was worried about his immune system. She said that we could have blood tests if we wanted to feel reassured but in essence he is:

putting on weight
has not had anything serious (touch wood) like pneumonia
Illnesses do go and in between he does get better
most of the time he is still well within himself.

At the time it is so stressful and worrying but what I am trying to say is that your DS is building his own immunuity. The dr has said the worst time is up to 18 months and I'm hoping that by the time DS is 2 he will be a strong little bruser who will have the immunity of an ox.

Of course I don;t know the full stroy but if this sound like you then try not to worry and i'm sure it will get better - i'm hoping it will for me
