...Tailors Bunion and Arthritis anyone??

Just wanted to know if anyone else has suffered from Tailors Bunion and how they have resolved it if possible? I have psoriatic arthritis and my feet are becoming so painful again. The inflammation seems to be subsiding but I'm left with sore bunions and I'm wondering if this is joint damage from the inflammation.
If its not one thing......?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated as wont see the consultant for at least a wk or so :(

Well I have a tailors bunion (as have RA and secondary oseteo)but I don't need to to anything about it as such at the moment as it doesn't hurt. It is unsightly though. Can you see the dr before your consultant appointment? Do you have anti-inflamms/painkillers for the meantime?

The joint may look better when the pa calms down a bit but there will be a bunion joint there, the advice is still to accommodate bunions in footwear but its harder with tailors because all lasts cut sweeping in towards the toes.

I'd try mens/boys black trainers for everyday wear, fastened with Velcro. Buy ones with removeable liners/insoles so that if podiatry want to put insoles in you've got room.

pandsbear I'm phoning my consultants secretary tomorrow as I'm having trouble with my meds so need to see him sooner anyway. I'm hoping I won't have to wait too long. My hospital have an urgent clinic but I won't get to see my consultant that's all. I already take etodolac for the inflammation.
fluffy I do really struggle to find comfortable shoes as I need to find shoes with a comfortable sole as I have inflammation in the balls of my feet and I get plantar fasciitis and now my bunions are starting to cause me problems. I've already had to stop wearing heels along time back and now even flat women's shoes are uncomfortable. Problem is my feet are narrow and my big toe is long so I struggle anyway with shoes. Feel like screaming to be honest, I'm so jealous of people who can wear anything they want but then I feel guilty cos there's people with much worse problems.

Could your consultant refer you for hospital shoes? They are very lightweight now but in many trusts only consultants can refer you for them.

As everyday shoes they are ideal.

Hmm not sure fluffy? I've been referred and had insoles made but to be honest they're so big I can't fit them in hardly any of my shoes cos they then make my shoes too tight! Feel like I'm going round in circles. I'll ask him once I've got my appointment. I need shoes I can wear to an office that's all and I'm struggling to find smart comfy shoes that don't hurt :(

You will struggle, insoles off ortho are notoriously big and difficult to get into normal shoes.

It's a waste of funds if they give you insoles you can't actually wear. Drives me mental.

It's always worth asking.

fluffy I didn't think they would be so bulky! Im going to go to clarks tomorrow to try and find some comfortable shoes, I'll take my insoles with me.
I do feel like banging my head against a wall sometimes.

OP I also have moulded inserts (they hold my feet together underneath as the bones are collapsing as well as having lumpy joints!) - they fit in the fit flop trainers if that is of any use. I know they are not formal smart office wear but for the rest of the time they are great...They also have good padded soles as I also can't wear flat hard soles.

Yea I've got some moulded inserts pandsbear but I find they don't fit in women's shoes only trainers cos they're so bulky and wide. I've just been to clarks though and found some really comfortable brogues so hoping they might help when I'm at work! They've got cushioning in the heel and the ball part of the shoe...plus they have a slight heel (as in 1/2 inch) so they should help with the plantar fasciitis! fingers crossed :)

Ah pandsbear I've ordered them in black and brown ha! I can't wait for them to arrive. I can wear socks with them too to keep my feet warm! Yippee! The small things eh! :)
