4 courses of antibiotics in a month and I'm still not right...

I can't be bothered with name changing, so please excuse the personal details I am about to share...

I'd been having bleeding in the middle of my cycle for 3 months when I started getting some unpleasant discharge, so I went to the GP. She said it just sounded like a bacterial infection rather than anything more serious, did a smear and gave me antibiotics. A week later she rang with my results and said I had Group C Strep (I'd only heard of Group B Strep before) and gave me a prescription for penicillin.

After taking the penicillin, I got the tale tell signs of a water infection so I went to see the nurse who got me a prescription from the GP for a different course of antibiotics. I'd been taking them for a few days when I began to feel very unwell with terrible pain, a temperature and nausea. I went back to see a different GP who tested a urine sample and said the infection was still raging away, I had a temperature, pain in my lower back, nausea and blood in my urine by now. He put me on a 4th course of antibiotics and sent my sample to the lab.

I haven't heard back from that test, and am on my last day of this course of medicine. But I still don't feel right. I still have a sense of urgency for the toilet and a niggling feeling of being uncomfortable in my abdomen, although the bad pain has subsided. I am drinking litres of water each day but, not surprisingly after all the ABs I now also have thrush.

I am very stressed at the moment, it is the first anniversary of my dd's death next week, and I just want to feel well again to cope with the upcoming days. Any advice on what I can do to clear whatever is going on?

Oh cupoftea that sounds rough and horrible timing too :(
It sounds like you do have a persistent infection complicated by thrush.
I take it you don't have a coil in?
If you do I would get it out ASAP. Could you have a chat with your gp about following up your results and maybe having a chat with a microbiologist before prescribing you anything else?

Thanks for the reply Norem
No I don't have a coil fitted. Do you think I ought to call the surgery to chase the results next week?
I just want it over with now.

Yes definitely get them to chase your results, make an appointment with your gp and make sure they know why you need to be better.
Good luck :)

Oh sweetheart. Sorry to hear you are not well. I hope that you managed to chase the results up and are beginning to pick up. Acidophilus is you friend after your gut flora has been decimated by antibiotics.
You are in my thoughts at this time.x

Yes they need to check which antibiotic the bacteria is sensitive too and may need a different antibiotic.

Have you had something for the thrush? Fluconazole tablet works for me.

I often think of Bea and the tea set Thanks
