bumpy raised skin rash after virus, cream or piriton doesnt seem to be working

would really appreciate anyones advice/experience on thier lo's rashes after they have had a viral infection if possible. DD last sunday, on the 3rd day of penecillin developed a very bad slightly swollen rash on her face, we were advised to stop penecillin for ailments following on from this thread and on weds we were prescribed Piriton Syrup and Unguentum M cream twice a day. However, her raised bumpy skin on her legs is still just as bad, when she scratches it, it goes lumpy and raised almost like gnat bites, but the rash on her face which is always there are individual small red raised spots, but when she gets hot it flares up and looks quite red and almost swollen just like it is on her legs....we are keeping her finger nails as short as possible and the cream does seem to give her a little relief.

How long does something like piriton take to work? I thought it would have had some effect by now surely?? Just wondered what other peoples experiences were with this type of rash if your lo's suffered from the same after a virus?

It is possible your dd is allergic to sulpha drugs. A lot of creams (i'm fairly sure unguentum is one of them) have sulpha in them. Can you try the piriton without the sulpha. Also could be that the rash is unrelated to either the penicillin or the creams and is just a side effect of the virus. I used to get rashes with colds when I was a child and funnily enough, although I eventually grew out of them, I started getting them again after giving birth.

Yes my ds always gets a rash when he gets ill. He had tonsilitis and apparently it was a viral version so he had rash all over too. Unfortunately not a lot you can do about it, it will go in time.

Yes, my DS had this after tonsillitis. You might be better with diporbase than unguentum merk. Basically the rash is like eczema. DS eventually needed some steroid cream for the owrst bits but it did eventually go after a few weeks.
