PCOS, period from hell, so miserable and afraid.

I've got PCOS and as a result have irregular periods. I started a period in June, my first since May last year, and it is till ongoing. Just when I think it is going, it gets so heavy again, I'm having to change tampons every hour and I'm up several times a night changing pads. Also have days where huge clots are coming out.

I've been to the GP, was given tablets to stop and had 10 days of bliss, now having period from hell, major cramp and my hormones are through the roof.

GP is concerned about lack of periods and then the heaviness of them, malignant lining was mentioned and I have to wait until period is finished then go for an ultrasound and some tests, also a smear even though I had one last year.

So, does anyone have any advice or reassurance for m who has been through similar?

Sorry I have no advice but bumping up for you. My cousin had fibroids that gave her the periods from hell. Keep going back to your GP, get some more of those tablets and get a referal ASAP. This must be horrible for you and no way to live.

I would return to the GP asap and also insist that you are now referred to a gynaecologist for further evaluation. Do not take no for an answer. Such problems as well are outside a GPs remit and further waiting is unacceptable.

Fibroids can cause heavy bleeding to arise; I do not think that particular is anything to do with PCOS.

Thanks. I went to see the go today as I've had enough, was up every hour last night changing pads.

Have some different tablets, and a follow on for two weeks to see original gp and will ask for referral.

Hi, just spotted your post by chance, and just wanted to send you kind thoughts, I have been where you are and it is horrible - please do not accept living like this at all..

. Im assuming the tablets you have been given are danazol or the like to stop you bleeding. INSIST on having an ultrasound to check for fibroids as this non stop bleeding is debilitating and may result in you being really anaemic. Please go back and ask them to do this for you. I had an operation to remove fibroids some years ago, a myamectomy, and it was not pleasant, but could not go on with living as you have described. I felt so utterly desperate and I paid to go private and the consultant said there were no fibroids. Went on NHS a month later for an ultrasound and the fibroids were grapefruit sized! Tablets may not be enough so please look after yourself. Would also recommend Spatone natural iron sachets to help your iron levels, but you must speak to your GP about this to check you are not anaemic.

Gp I am seeing in two weeks is referring me for an ultrasound, but I need to stop bleeding first. Tablets I'm taking are tranexamic acid, hopefully they'll do their thing.

Yes i know the tablets, currently my daughter is taking them for heavy periods...but what you described earlier seems more than this..it sounds chronic so do not let it go on for longer than two weeks. I felt like banging my head in the doctors' door alot of the time, you have to be persistent and insist they take it seriously. It is such a draining condition to live with and the doctors simply do not undetstand how much it can affect you. Keep strong and hope the tablets help with an improvement. Iron!!!
