Fontanelles; when should they disappear?

DS4 is almost 1 and the fontanelle on the top of his head is still really big? I googled and it seems that it can stay open until the child is 16 months or so. His seems so big though. He does have SN and developmental delay. Anyone had similar?

DS's was still pretty big at 2 nearly 3. Enough that it'd made some of my friends quite squeamish! I think it's gone now (he's a month away from 4) - I shall check later.

I mentioned it to the GP once and he said that he was fine. DS doesn't have SN but was a big baby (9'11) and had a very big head.

That's reassuring. It's hard to get him to drink enough and I know they appear sunken if a baby is dehydrated so I notice it more.

also if a child was born by c section the fotanell can feel open for onger as the head has not been squished through the pelvis to help close.

He was a c-section my other three were not so that would explain why I never noticed with the others. Thanks Chapsmum - I'll stop worrying now.
