Hi CC

I'm still of them it's 5 months this month and can honestly say that even though I sometimes sit and think about smoking I don't actually miss it one bit.

It truely is the best thing I have ever done. Grin

I'd like to get off them. I smoke about 5 a day at the moment, it used to be much worse pre-pregnancy which was 4.5 years ago now. I've been trying to quit for the last year and failing dismally. Sad

I can direct you to whyquit.com which has hours of reading that slowly penetrates your brain till you realise theres no option but to accept the fact you cant have anymore fags.
Or theres Allen Carr who will tell you its a pleasure to stop...
Having 5 a day makes each one even more (ha ha) pleasurable?

It will be a year for me next month.:) So pleased that it seems like I've finally cracked it.

Do keep having goes at giving up anyone who wants to- it took me so many tries that I lost count but eventually it worked.

Every morning when I wake up I tell myself I'm not going to smoke. Or drink. For a whole day. It just never happens! The desire is there but the will is weak. Maybe you guys can help me make the decision.

I know exactly where you are, I struggled and stumbled for a good couple of years before I finally stopped.

How many did you smoke charliecat? And for how long? I started really regularly smoking in my early 20s and stopped in my mid-30s when pregnant. Dd's almost 4 now and since she was born I've been up and down, sometimes almost stopped, sometimes smoking 10 a day. The 5-a-day pattern's been going on for about a year while I try to convince myself to bite the bullet! I'll check out your link now. Thanks. Smile

i too beleive i will not smoke or drink every day - at first having a drink was an excuse to have a fag, but now i am having a secret ciggie at ds naptime - twice a day - havent told anyone as feel such a failure after not smoking for almost 2 years, but have tricked myself into believing that a couple a day is fine...oh dear, i know its a problem!

aaaarrrrrggggggghhhhhhhh secret smoker..I could feel I had the potential to become a secret smoker, so every time I did have a fag I told someone...anyone...the milkman even, just so it wasnt my little secret...Right you have told us now, you have to confess now. Or not have any...OK????

the thing is i confess to other friends who also enjoy the occasional cigerette - so that kinda makes it ok. like a group of teenagers.

i guess i should grow up!!

I've never been that secretive about it although I have always felt very embarrassed to admit to failing to quit! My mum's known I smoke for years but thinks I gave up a year ago which was my last Big Attempt To Quit.

I do have a friend though who's a childminder and she's the most secretive smoker I've ever met. She wears a glove to smoke a fag so that you can't smell it on her fingers and carries a bag of things to eat to take the smell away! Her husband has no idea she smokes, nor do the parents of the kids she looks after. She doesn't smoke while looking after them I hasten to add, nor does she smoke in front of her own dd. Mostly because kids are such chatterboxes her cover would be well and truly blown!

I know a secret smoker too, shes very good at it(you know who you areWink).

One of the things that slowly dawned on me on my many quits was that I would always say OMG the cat fell out the window ..I had to have a fag.
Or my mum will say the traffic was awful, I needed to smoke.
But I (and) she didnt REALLY have too, yes, our blood pressure went up and we were stressd but the fag DID NOT help. It didnt make the cat better and it didnt make the traffic disapeer. It just meant I spend the rest of the day smoking, and kicking myself and gearing up for stopping again the next day..till the next drama happened.
Get that in your head and your half way there!

I have 25 fags left atm. I keep thinking im not going to buy anymore but then I do Blush

My best friend smoke and he did once say that we could quit together. Will talk to him about it when he gets back from his hols

How many are you on LadyTamba?

At the moment my planned quitting date is the beginning of July. My partner will know if he's going to be made redundant towards the end of June and once that immediate stress is removed I will face it. Hope you guys will help? Smile
