How much food could you eat in one go?

I can manage a few mouthfuls, then I start to feel very very full, nauseated and uncomfortable, but not in pain.

More than anything, it's bleedin' annoying. I see food, i want food, I like it in my mouth, but I am having terrible trouble actually enjoying it. I've got to the stage where I don't really want to cook for the family as sitting down to a meal feels so horrible.

I will see a dr about this but wondered if anyone had any experience.

yes I think you should see someone about it, doesn't sound normal at all.
Are you very slim as a result of this?

Not particularly! But I suppose I make up for it by being quite happy to graze. I do eat fairly healthily.

Definitely need to get to the gp just.to check it out.

Well, I have a hiatus hernia which makes eating large meals uncomfortable, (feel overly full quite quickly) but I'd certainly manage to eat more than a few mouthfuls.

Definitely get it checked out

OK. My worry is that it's something psychological, in which case it's going to be a long long road to get anything done about it.
(I don't feel like it is, though. I probably would, wouldn't I?)

No, please go to the GP straight away.

It's in the pipeline. I know it's a GP situation.
I have looked up what it could be and seen all the bad news, but I really don't have any worries about ovarian cancer (if that's what you're thinking). There's nothing amiss apart from this.

Are you under a lot of stress/more stress than usual at all? Severe stress seriously kills my (normally very healthy) appetite.

I'm reasonably stressed, I've got the usual worries that someone my age has, all run-of-the-mill and not exceptional.

The thing is the problem isn't appetite. I want to eat but my body sort of refuses.

I do, more and more, think it must be stress/anxiety, and I don't really know what to do about it.

When did this start, OP?
DH & I have both had this virus thing (I think it's a virus) where we can't eat hardly, very annoying. Not recently, just a few times in the last 18 yrs. Goes on for a week or so & then we're fine again (back to our usual piggy ways).

Quite a number of years but it waxes and wanes. It's just really bad at the moment. I don't think it's viral but I know what you mean about getting something viral and being off your food. I'm just not off my food!

As an example, last night I had a slice of really nice bread with butter. I cut the slice, and ate half of it, and thought 'this is so good, I'll have another slice'. But by the time I'd nearly finished it (the first one) I was so full, I felt quite ill, and left the rest. Every meal is like that, everything I eat.

I don't know anyone who's had anything like it, never met anyone who's been able to empathise, thought I'd try here as a last resort.

I think you're right about getting checked out. If they can't find anything specific, then you could ask your GP for advice on what's best to do when you feel like this. If it is stress/anxiety related then they can refer you for cognitive behavioural therapy which can be helpful in managing your stress/anxiety levels. They should be very familiar with advice/help and hopefully will be pretty clued up.

How's this for weird? My cousin had a similar trouble eating & eventually lost loads of weight, it was found she had a benign growth around her esophogas. All better now, but very weird.

ps: Cousin suffered with it for years, over a decade easily, was often accused of being anorexic (which just made her more anxious).

Really? Wow. I've had 2 gastroscopies over the years, and a couple of barium swallows/x-rays but nothing's ever shown. However it's been a few years so I will try to introduce the idea whilst trying simultaneously to not make the gp roll her eyes.
