...to clear a sinus infection, they are lying.

It comes out of your eyes. And that is Not Good.

Ha ha! I snorted fizzy pop once, when I was about 12. Bloody hell it hurt (and I think that emerged from my eyes as well).

Seriously MrsLettuce. It was from the Livestrong website, a proper linkie to it and all. It was Not A Pleasant Experience.

Wow.

But. On the plus side. Apart from my eyes bleeding and saline postnasal drip...my sinus is chucking out a shitload of gunk...so maybe it's worked?

Apparantly, 4-5 times a day. Hell No

It does work. Easier with a netty (netti/neti?) pot, though.

what's that

It does work, you are right though the whole experience feels like you have been submerged by a great big wave in the sea.

When I suffered from awful sinus probs before the operation which fixed them this is the only thing which helped.

second neti pot. it goes down your throat if you're not concentrating but never come out of my eyes (a bit jealous actually)

ah I see! I didn't look like the woman in that photo, you know serene and in control, nope, I looked like a woman who had hot pokers shoved up her nostrils Wink

it does work - if you are scuba diving & cant sort your ears out (connected to sinuses) you snort sea water - its awful but does the job!

well. I shall take it back. Unpleasant as that was, it has worked a bit! After the gunk stopped coming (thanks to several forceful nose blows!) it feels marginally clearer. Not the sinus' themselves, as I still sound bunged up, but my nostrils are a little clearer.

ok, it's returned. I had about 30 mins of almost clearness though. YEY! it's a start.

It stops my DH snoring and he uses it before bed each night. I luuuurve his saline spray.

I'm addicted to mine. I'm 36 weeks pregnant and GP won't give me ABs so the saline snorting is a revelation. I'm actually pleased when stuff goes down my throat as it means it's not blocking up my poor head.

It works very well using it when I go for a piss twice a night, no longer am I waking up breathless and with a mouth that tastes like fetid pond water.

I've even been using it on my snotty little DS as he was getting into the habit of picking his nose until it bled.

Oh, I really enjoy this (not the eyes part -- I've never managed that). I'm a fan of the Sterimar spray, which is just expensive saline in a squirty canister with a built in schnozzle nozzle.

I love the pot- thing! Saved several nights of sleeping propped up and waking every 30 mins to wipe my nose!

fuzzpig · 24/05/2013 15:32

Blimey I've done it (not with a proper neti pot though, think I'll invest in one for the future) and haven't had it coming out of my eyes.

But then I couldn't do the party trick my friend could, of snorting ribena and crying purple tears, so maybe I'm just not built that way :o

Oh is that right? Yes my nose was blocked, proper bunged.

I have not done it 4-5 times a day as suggested. Ouch No! Bt, have done it this morning and will do it this evening, it is working. I think. Hw mad is that?!

I am guessing that the fact my snot has gone from being clear with streaks of green in, to full on proper green means its clearing it all out? Hmm

Everything tastes green

The sterimar sprays are great. They even do one for tiny babies which combined with a nasal aspirator means I never have to look at a snotty nose. I do my twins every morning and night and they are generally snot free.

The neilmed bottle is good - and comes with ready to use sachets of salt and bicarbonate (which stops it burning quite so much). You can get it in boots.

On hols over Easter, I found doing lots of handstands/somersaults under water to make the kids think I'm not an old fart, had a marvellous effect on my sinuses.

When my DH has a bad cold, the snot comes out of his eyes [vom]. At least you are doing it on purpose - makes all the difference.
