Thankyou for your replies, I am a worrier but didn't question it much when I was at my Dr's it was only when I came out I thought about questions..
He did say that my hands had no significance on my platelet level..

I'm just wondering do platelet levels change ?? what is classed as high???
My hands did worry me the pain was so bad that I couldn't use them for anything , my fingers were so swollen & stiff. I just hope that it doesn't return..
All my blood tests came back normal apart from the slightly raised platelets maybe I should request a repeat test for peace of mind although I do feel a little embarassed because the Dr wasn't concerned smile

That's not a worryingly high platelet count at all in the context of there being an infection or some inflammation going on in your hands. If it was a virus causing it I would expect it to be more of a post-viral thing so it may have been viral despite you not feeling ill at the time, just e body responding to something it's in the process of getting rid of. If it was me, I probably wouldn't bother repeating a platelet count below about 700 or so if there was a cause for it being raised (such as an infection or inflammation) and I'd only want to a actually do something about a platelet count over 1000. However, it's also a case of peace of mind and a platelet count is cheap and simple to do so I'm sure if you asked your GP they could arrange a repeat for you.

I would ask for a repeat full blood count, in 4 weeks, to recheck your platelets however as long as your other levels were normal maybe the doctor was not too concerned about it.

A couple of months ago both my hands swelled up with awful pain.. I ended up in A & E where I was told that it sounded like Carpel Tunnel I couldn't think why I would have this condition but the pain was terrible I couldn't use or bend my fingers... I saw a GP at my practice who came up with the same diagnosis & I had bloods done which all came back normal apart from my platelets were slightly risen as she put it at 460 but she said that the platelets had no significance with my hands but advised a referral about my hands.
I was worried sick & went back to see my usual Gp that's fantastic he didn't feel that I had Carpels & felt that I had a viral infection that caused my hands to swell & tingle I had the symptoms of it but he reassured me that my hands would go back to normal with time.. They did get better although I was left with slight numbness & tingling on the tips of my fore finger & middle finger which now I'm pleased to say has gone..

However I'm concerned that a virus could have caused these symptoms in my hands as I didn't feel ill atall I've never experienced anything like it and I was convinced it was Carpel Tunnel with all the pain & tingling also is 460 a worrying platelet count should I have another blood test?
