Should I go to to gp????? Chronic pain under right rib cage..

...feel like I need my on parking slot at surgery the amount of times I have been.

Basically I have had this this constant pain on the right hand side under rib cage, for the two months. First time I went to gp, he said I had acid reflux and prescribed me omeprazol. Took it for a week, felt worse, went back to gp, who sent me to the hospital for an emergency scan as he thought it was my gall bladder. Scan showed nothing. Had a gastroscopy earlier on in the month and ct scan, but my consultant is on a leave and won't be back for a fortnight to look at the results. Been to see gp about the pain, who basically said I can't do anything for you until the consultant has seen your result - keep taking paracetamol..which doesn't help. Hospital secretary said there is no other consultant who can see your results so you have to wait for consltant to return for him to see your results...which I doubt he will see first thing as soon as he returns and god knows when my appointment to see him will come through.....mean while am in constant agony, can't eat, hurts like mad under right rib cage, cant sleep at night, feel like I have glass in my digestive system....where do I go???Sad

yes, go back. At the least they should be able to give some decent painkillers

Keep on at them. If a scan shows nothing it doesn't necessarily mean it's not gallbladder related. You might need an MRI or even an MRCP. Meanwhile try to help yourself by drastically reducing the amount of fat you're eating. That might help. Hope so!

Thank u....just worried about the amount of painkillers am taking...2 paracetamols, every 4-6 hrs, or cocodamol...concerned that the painkillers might be causing other side effects...
Hurting like mad today, can feel awful pain under rib cage, which sometimes feel like the pain has moved to the right and sometimes feel it in my back...Sad

Could it be the gall bladder, even though my bloods for gall bladder have come back fine and the scan came back clear too ??
(Been told that I had a ?Dr?. conduct my ultrascan, which is unusual and as he is very well qualified would have picked up anything wrong with my gall bladder)

Listen it can be something to do with your liver
so you should ask your gp about it

Do you have health anxiety?

If you have , then that's the problem here. It's unusual for scans to not pick up anything and to be told on several occasions that you're fine- although mistakes can happen

Of you don't have HA or a history of it then you need to go back

How did the omeprazole make it worse? I couldn't tolerate omeprazole, but lansoprazole worked a treat (took a few days to work fully), it's worth trying a different brand of the same class of drug if you can't tolerate one type.
You possibly have an ulcer from the pain you are describing, and a PPI (such as lansoprazole or omeprazole) are usually part of the treatment for that.
Gallstones are sometimes missed on ultrasound due to what they are made up of or where they are in the gallbladder. Have you tried taking buscopan? If it is a stone stuck in the duct then buscopan reduces the spasm in the muscle, reducing pain.
Hope you feel better soon. If you are worried, see your gp

I have tried buscopan, since last Monday, but no relief. Bit worried as I can feel he pain going into my back as well. Will call gp on Monday and see if I can switch brands to lansoprazol, see if that might help. Is there much difference between omeprazol and lansoprazol?
Don't think I suffer from health anxiety. Usually fit and well and this pain under my rib cage has been main thing I have suffered from?

Thanks...will be persistent, although been to gp 3 times in the last 6 weeks for this problem...keep feel like I a hypochondriac..
I guess if something major came up on the gastroscopy/ct scan I would have been notified by now?

I get IBS pains in that place - and heartburn with it which when bad can go through to my back (like heart attack!). Stress, worry about the pain just makes it worse.

I had colonoscopy & gastroscopy, but they told me results immediately after - nothing found, just continue to treat as IBS.

I take lanzoprozole and mebeverine/colofac, as well as a daily actimel drink and it really controls things. Hope you get answers soon.

Sounds similar to me, I got given a dx of costochondritis. Inflammation of the bone-cartilage joints in my ribs. Non serious but hurts like fuck!
Definitely get urgent GP appt though, just in case it's more serious.
Good luck

Update-went to gp who referred me to hos. Spent 8 hrs in surgical assessment unit due to no beds available for patients to lie down on for docs to examination. Eventually seen by consultant for 10 mins who said come back tomorrow for an ultrasound....Angry..had a lot of 'might be this, might be that'...come back still ill and none the wiser....Angry

Awaiting a imagining test to see how things are working in digestive system....so basically two months on from when pain started....no diagnosis Sad.....
