I have been hit by a terrible bout of diarrhoera this morning, couldn't even leave the house to take dd to school and water is just going through me too.
Has anyone ever used flat coke to help?
Any suggestions would help as I am now at home feeling crappy with 2 under 5's who will probably end up watching videos/tv all day as I don't have the energy to entertain them.

Aparently flat cola is good for rehydration purposes, I was advised of this recently when DS had a terrible vom bug. Hope you are all better soon!

Flat coke, Dioralyte, Lucozade Sport, lemon barley water, squash... any clear liquid with a bit of sugar in that you can keep down is a good thing.
It won't cure the diarrhoea but it will stop you getting dehydrated and give you a bit of energy hile your body fights it off.
Dry toast or crackers with honey when you're feeling up to it, no dairy till 24h from last episode.

Good luck and hope you feel better soon (and enjoy the daytime tv!)

ADvised to drink flat coke if you get a dose of squits while travelling - I did so when in India. I think the sugar helps.

Hope you feel better soon

TBH only good thing about flat cola is that it is ver sugary< which is probably what you are needing.
I would suggests small sips of cooled boiled water to start and the some sooky sweets or som fresh orange diluted 1/4 orange to 3/4 water with a tiny pinch of salt in it. (Home made dioralyte.)
If you have only had it since this morning I suspect you may just need a sugar boost rather than salt re-hydration.
In short I would say cooled boiled water and suck on a sweet cause the sugar will be absorbed from your mouth rather than fuel the bug in your tummy.

thanks everyone. not got any sweets in the house, but have a can of coke so just letting it go flat before sipping. it really is unbelievable, neveer had it like this before, every 10 mins in the toilet - don't think there is anything left to come out!!!!

I am glad its not sickness too - that I couldn't handle! not sure what it is or where it came from.

hey pucca, sorry to disagree,
I but highly reccommend not taking immodium at the first sign of dirrhoera, it is your bodies natural way of evacuating bad bacteria from the gut and I would not really stop it unless it is causing severe dehydration. Its symptoms should be treated with fluids etc.

You can flatten the coke by putting it into a glass and stirring with a metal spoon - or boil it in a saucepan, that knocks the bubbles out too.

i use it for upset tums, been doing so with ds2 all weekend, it will stop you getting dehydrated, and the phosphoric acid in it does something good i cant remember

quickest way to flatten it is to drop a pinch of sugar in it, it fizzes up and goes flat immediately
