Went to the gp today complaining of persistent pins and needles In left hand! Try querying carpal tunnel so have to have loads of blood tests! Can anybody explain what this is aside from a nerve problem an what it potentially means long term. Thanks

The NHS website was useful to me, I've only had pregnancy carpal tunnel. Basically there are a couple of treatments with the most extreme being surgery.

Sometimes carpal tunnel sorts itself out with time, sometimes a steroid injection settles it, and sometimes you can manage it with splints at night. But the operation takes 10 minutes under local anaesthetic, and almost always works, so isn't something to avoid if its recommended.

My Dad had the op on both hands and he is all back to normal now. Smile The Op is done under local anaesthetic which surprised me.

A few weeks out of the blue my hands swelled up & were agony , I ended up at A & E they told me that it was Carpel tunnel & gave me some Naproxen which brought down the swelling... I went to my own Gp as I wasn't sleeping at night with pins & needles in my thumb, index and middle finger it was so painful.. My GP said that I don't have Carpel tunnel & a viral virus had caused my problems. Thank goodness my hands are much better but I'm still a bit miffed about how a virus could have caused me so much pain ...
