Has anyone had this virus and its aftermath?

Three weeks ago I suddenly felt like a bus had hit me, was in bed for three days with horrendous aches, especially my back and legs, headache, nausea, sweats, chills, etc. I slowly recovered but I have since been getting one-day symptoms than then go away, not as bad, just tired and uncomfortable. Today I feel exhausted, with a headache, slight cough if I breath deeply... I'm thinking this horrible virus must be still in my system and pops up when I'm tired... Anyone else??

Me, currently on day 3 and moving house tomorrow Hmm. I am a walking medicine cabinet and got 0 hours sleep last night from coughing so much. My pelvic floor is already on it's last legs!

Smile at the pelvic floor!! How horrendous, while moving house... keep downing those ibuprofen tabs!

Yep, I have had it too. Doc says flu like virus. I will feel ill for 7-10 days then tired for 2-3 weeks.

Yep we all had it. DH took 3 months to get better and I still have achey joints 4 months later. It's horrid Hmm

This is it's second appearance but I'm not sure if it's the same. Exhausted due to house move.

I came on here to post a thread to ask about my current lurgy and think this is it, don't think I've ever felt so ill.
WTF is it?

2 days bedbound, awful sore throat (practical closed up), pounding headache, every lymph node in body throbs, joints and muscles ache.Even my skin hurt, thankfully that seems to have stopped now.

Managed to get out of bed today and drove DS to nursery, felt a bit like an out of body experience, still feel very weak and strange.

Am dosed up on paracetamol and ibuprofen and trying to keep hydrated, can't be having another 5-7 days of this.
Am supposed to be going for a lovely lunch date and theatre trip with my Mum tomorrow, not sure if I've got the strength for it (that really sounds pathetic) and definitely don't want to pass it on to anyone else.

Hope everyone else feels better v soon, any tips for speedy recovery gratefully received.

Yep, all 3 of us have had some degree of it. I still have the cough but am no longer achey and flu-y, 7 days after it first came on. Poor DS got packed off to nursery last monday morning because he was well enough to play with his cars and I just wanted to crawl back to bed, then he was sent home ill at lunchtime because he had it worse than I thought. I felt so guilty of sending him to nursery when he obviously wasn't well but I couldn't have looked after him on Monday morning.

No tips for speedy recovery, just wanted to add my voice to the cry of misery! Been in bed for two days but dragged myself to work today. I'm delightfully spacy and my eyes don't seem to be working. I'll keep necking the Day Nurse Hmm

I don't seem to have a cough or runny nose at all, perhaps I've got that joy to come - just what feels like total body failure ATM

Fire I know what you mean, it's the 1st time I've been literally unable to look after DC (4+2), don't know what I'd have done without DP and my fantastic parents.
Yet another time when I take my hat off to lone parents.

Awkward don't know how you've hobbled into work, shouldn't you be at home? Hope you're in quarantine and not spreading your lurgy around the workplace!

Think I might crack open the Berocca, can't do any harm.

It's the inevitable result of draconian sick leave policies where I work, but have shut myself in my office and have got the antibacterial wipes out. Might amuse myself this afternoon by trying to find the head of HR and coughing on her.

Has anyone's DC had this? DD (12 in a couple of weeks) started feeling ill Monday evening, mean mother than I am packed her off to school Tuesday as she didn't seem too bad (oops) - she saw school nurse Tuesday and was sent home. She's had fever Tuesday and Wednesday, saw GP yesterday who prescribed antibiotics in case it's tonsillitis (but said it may or may not be). She's alternating between ibuprofen and paracetamol. Main symptoms are sore throat, splitting headache, aching and ringing ears. She started penicillin yesterday but no real improvement. Sounds similar to what people are describing above. Anyone with children with similar symptoms?

Oh poor you, that's so short sighted of HR.
Think I might be up for an 'informal interview' when I get back to work at which I'll promise to try not be ill again during the next 12 months Hmm

I think I'd be a danger to my patients if I tried to work today.

We have this too. My dh has been literally knocked out by it for a week. Never seen him so ill. DS 2 (8) came down with it Wednesday. He is not as bad as dh but still not well. Ds1(11) ds3 (4) and I seem to have escaped. Or not. Both ds1 and ds3 had terrible coughs and colds a couple of weeks ago and I felt rough last week but nothing like dh or ds2. A friend of mine and her entire family if dh and three kids were struck with this over a week ago and are still recovering. It was really rough for them.

Us too. Kids seemingly not too badly affected but DH and I...... bleurgh. Think it was/ is probably flu as it is the only illness I have ever had that has actually made me feel depressed in aftermath- known after effect of flu.

Sympathies

Where do you all live BTW? Wondering if there is a regional dimension. We are London/surrey borders.

DD2 had this over half term: seven days of temp and flu symptoms (Mummy, my brain and my body hurt). Finally after 10 days she was out of jammies and back at school but she was exhausted (and grumpy) for a good week after. We're in Scotland. I assumed it was a proper flu, as the practice nurse told me this was a bad year for it when I saw her before Christmas, but I don't think you can do much more than hole up with paracetomol and a duvet and wait for it to pass.

I have had it too, south west Surrey/Hampshire boarder. Doc described as a flu like virus when I spoke to her last Friday. had to call her back on Monday and she signed me off work for this week (first ill last Wednesday). She said I would continue to feel tired for another 2-3 weeks!!

Something very similar here. North. Coming up to 3 weeks. Improved but not better. Seems to recur a bit somedays.

Yes even my skin hurt. Coughing up nasty stuff (thats gone now completely thank goodness)

I've kept thinking, I'll be ok by x,y,z and these days come and go and I'm still not myself...

UPdate here: A month on and I still feel exhausted about once a week now. Also I feel my airways are irritated and I have to cough, weird to explain, again every few days for a day or two...It feels like when there's strong air conditioning or cold fog and it makes you cough... weird

I've had fever, sore throat, chills, cough, fuzzy head and nothing is shifting it or the complete exhaustion with it, all five of us have inc. the baby and its a total nightmare. It seems to be everywhere in North London & apparently takes 3 weeks to shift. It also comes & goes & the loss of appetite and energy is crippling. I have never felt so ill.

Yep. I'm on week 4 of the bl**dy thing. Took me a few days in bed, about 2 weeks of early nights, and still have a 'normal' cold now.
50 miles out of London.
