Bumped head when out sledging

Hi, had a lovely time out sledging in the park today with DCs and friends, had a spectacular bumpy fast run, ended up backwards and thumped my head against edge of the bandstand. I wasn't knocked out but felt sick and dizzy. It happened at 12ish, and I still have quite a headache but it isn't getting worse, I never really know with a bumped head how cautious to be, presume will be ok? Don't want to go to hosp unnecessarily, but can't help remembering Natasha Richardson... Can anyone reassure me this is just mild concussion and will settle?

If the sick feeling didn't last, and you only have a mild headache, it's unlikely to be anything serious. If you get ANY other symptoms, you need to ring NHS Direct or go to A&E - watch for vision changes and balance problems/dizziness, and make sure you aren't alone because concussion can cause mood or behaviour changes that you might not notice.

I fell unconscious after taking a high dose of medication on an empty stomach. When I came to, I could not move as was parylised and my head felt "all shook up". I waited a few seconds and tried again to sit up, which i managed with difficulty to do. But my hands were totally useless and weak. to cut a long story short, the next day, I felt bruises on the left side and back of neck, so confirmed my suspicion of hitting my head. I did fall asleep for hours afterwards. I decided I felt OK and did not go to A&E to hang about 4 hours. I did not have a headache, only the bruised feeling when I touched my head. It was in 2005. It all depends on how hard you hit your head, where and how hard a surface. As can cause dangerous swelling of the brain.
