Nork problem

My left nork feels a bit full and quite sore, particularly on the side nearest the armpit, like when you're breastfeeding and have gone a bit too long between feeds. The right one feels more or less normal. I am not pg (I think!) or bf. Should I be worried? I have a Mirena coil in that has been there for two years, and this is the first time I have felt something like this since it was put in.

worth getting checked

coils can shift, you could be pregnant, get a test.

don't panic, maybe you put on a bit of weight over Christmas and your bra is a bit tight...

but do get it checked!

I found this on a website - part of an essay about coils:

Positional Abnormalities
Subtle positional abnormalities are best identified by HSG or ultrasound. After Essure placement, the device can migrate either proximally into the uterine cavity or distally through the distal tubes, sometimes being expelled into the peritoneal cavity [5]. To determine whether the microinserts are properly positioned, radiologists should identify the radiodense markers at both the proximal and distal ends of the device. The device's manufacturer has developed a grading system based on satisfactory (grade 2) or unsatisfactory (grades 1 and 3) position of the microinsert [5]. Grade 1 corresponds to expulsion of the device into the uterine cavity or proximal position of the device with more than 50% of the length of the inner coil trailing into the uterine cavity (Figs. 9A, 9B, 9C, 10A, 10B, 10C, 10D, 11A, 11B). Grade 2 is defined by a microinsert that crosses the uterotubal junction with less than 50% of the length of the inner coil trailing into the uterine cavity or when the proximal end of the inner coil is within 30 mm of the proximal fallopian tube measured from the contrast-filled uterine cornua (Fig. 3A, 3B). Grade 3 corresponds to a device that is too distal in the tube, with the proximal end of the inner coil more than 30 mm from the contrast agent?filled cornua (Figs. 12 and 13A, 13B), or when the device is expelled into the peritoneal cavity.

If the device is either grade 1 or 3 in position, one must assume that it is nonfunctional from a clinical standpoint, resulting from an abnormal or failed fibrotic reaction induced by the inner coil of the device (Figs. 13A, 13B and 14A, 14B). The abnormal reaction can manifest in nonocclusion or occlusion of the tubes only at their distal ends, neither of which ensures permanent contraception. Patients are instructed to continue using alternative contraception, have the devices repositioned, or opt for incisional sterilization.

I am going to have to POAS once I have worked up the courage to buy one.

The strings are still there. This is good, right?

honey, I didn't mean to scare you, just wanted to say that no form of contraception is 100% sure
(or maybe they just say that in case something happens they are not going to get sued!)

I'm in no way able or entitled to say what is going on, just wanted to tell you that there's a slim chance.....

I think you should talk to gp about breast pain as it could be anything and completely unrelated to coil!

get checked!

If it's only one boob, my guess is that it'll be a cyst. I think you should see a doctor.

PG-related breast changes affect both sides.

I had painful lumps in one breast, but had read that cancerous lumps are usually pea shaped/size and immovable. Mine were irregular shaped and spongy and movable.
At the breast clinic, I was told mine are just fibrous tissue.
But you should get your breast properly tested to be sure.

Where are you in your cycle? I went to the gp with a distinct lump on one side & she said it was the gland which was swollen (I'm talking something about 2 inches long). I have since noticed that it returns each month and is clearly felt beneath the skin ( it was also scanned, to be doubly sure). It gets quite sore too but I posted on a similar thread about breast pain and someone said that alcohol & caffeine can have an effect too so I'm monitoring that.

It's a gland thing in there, I think. No pea shaped anything.
Have not POAS.
Don't feel sick or anything though.
Don't have cycles - the coil got rid of them.

If it is a cyst and I ignore it, what are the consequences?

OP posts:
Report
meditrina · 17/01/2013 16:46

You'll keep feeling like this, or worse, as the cyst is likely to grow and one day will feel like a scary lump. Much better to brave the doc now.

Other side hurts now too.

Both sides?

It could be hormone driven, then. As well as in pregnancy, it can occur every cycle, or at the peri-menopause.

It's still worth braving the doctor - I think you are going to exhaust and confuse yourself with symptom spotting.

It's funny. I don't mind going to the dr with 'official' chronic illness I have but for some reason I absolutely hate going with other things. I have no idea why. I went for antibiotics for a nasty chest infection last month, but generally I just ignore stuff and hope for the best.

come on, don't be silly, it could be nothing and you work yourself up for nothing (again, sorry to have scared you, I feel bad Blush)

or it could be something, but then wouldn't you rather know and do something about it?

book the appointment and be done with it!

LargeLatte · 17/01/2013 22:06

Both sides? Up near armpits? Could just be swollen glands. But anything nork-related should really be checked by a GP.

Report
BoffinMum · 18/01/2013 13:46

It feels a lot better this morning. I think it was hormonal.

I know I am being a bit silly, but if you spent half your life in the doctor's with chronic ailments you might also be reluctant to go there with little things. I am due to go next week about my other stuff so I will get checked then (not least because Nurse AmazingMumof6 will tell me off otherwise Wink.
