Please could anyone give some advise please, my DS who is my first child caught the cold bug about two weeks ago, he had the runny nose, streamy eyes, temperature etc, we took him to the doctors and he gave some Amoxicilin (not sure if spelt it right) he has finished the course of this on Thursday bu now has a really dry chesty cough, he is off his food still drinking plenty but when he does eat half of the time he is sick within half an hour after and brings all his food back up again. Yesterday afternoon he started to lose his voice (not that he is saying much) his voice is very hoars and sounds very dry. We have been to the local chemist who has advices Trixilyx to give him with paracetamol but this does not seem to be helping much. We are probably going to take him to the doctor again tomorrow but any advice would be welcome.

Sound like he is run down, not uncommon after a course of antibiotics. Sanatogen vitamins in stead of tixilix at night, and pro biotic yogurt.
Get your GP to give him the once over to be on the safe side.
How old is ds?

Sounds similiar to our ds. He finished his antibiotics saturday but still is quite chesty. He had this at christmas too, he had 1 course of antibiotics which helped the chesty cold, but didn't completely clear it.

When we took him back to drs, they said he had bronchialitis which there's no treatment for other than time, steam, karval, raised mattress and keeping him upright.

It did clear finally after a few weeks, and it looks like his cold now is heading the same way.

He is being sick too, but I think this might be his body trying to clear his chest.

Does this sound similiar to your lo?

I would definitely take him to the doctor's again tomorrow. You don't say how old he is - if he is a baby and you are very worried then call the doctor tonight.

Have you got the head of his bed/cot raised? It's easy to do this with a cot - you can put the legs up on some books at the head end. If he's in a bed try propping the head of the mattress up by putting pillows underneath it. That will help a bit with the coughing. The other thing you can do is make steam - if you have central heating you can hang a damp towel (with the bottom of it in a large bowl of water) over the hot radiator. If he coughs a lot/gets wheezy you can make steam with a kettle boiling (easier in a small room) but be very careful. Or make the bathroom steamy by running the hot taps.

Hope you manage to get some sleep.

DS is only six and a half months old, thought about ringing the doctor out tonight but tried this once before when DS has gastric flu but the took six hours to ring back. It does sound exactly the same jmum he coughs so much he makes him self sick. He is also quite off with himself today and so tired but keeps fighting it, does not want anything, no nappy change, no feed, no drink, no playing with, no cuddles, no sleep.

Ds is still drinking enough for me not to be worried about dehydration. Is yout ds still having wet nappies?
If not I'd phone the drs straightaway or at least first thing in the morning.

sounds exacxtly the sort of mood the wee chap is in today, what I would say though is that if he is only 6 and a half months and refusing drinks you need to be seen ASAP.
Try giving him 10-20 mls of water/juice every 20 mins.
he may not want a bottel because if his nose is stuffed up he wont be able to sook. try a cup, try steaming him before you offer him a drink.
If you cant get him to drink you really must get him seen.

Then it does sound just like my ds - I think there's a lot of it going round.

Guess it's just keep doing all the things we've mentioned and take him to drs tomorrow - he may need more antibiotics.
