My 2yr old DD has had 3 episodes where she seems to have taken a fit, stopped breating, limbs go rigid and is just out of it for about 30 secs. Doc is referring her to Hospital for tests. Not the nicest thing to witness, very scary and upsetting for my dd. anyone else had similar thing happen?

hmmm, sounds like periods of apnea(not breathing) rather than seizures. How is your dd after they happen? Seizures can involve complete collapse, or rigidness or shaking jery movments, however the person usually breathes through them after the inital collapse.
Where in the hospital have you been referred?

Hi - Not sure where in the hospital we have to go. Waiting for an appointment. She also lost control of her bowels and had a dirty nappy when this happened. She is fine today, just wary of it happening again. Glad tests are getting done in case it is something else.

hello has ur dd had these episodes when shes awake or asleep

my ds suffered with seizures from 8 weeks old til he was 14 months (hes now 21 months)

he has had MRI of brain, CT of brain, 6 EEG'S which measure brain activity, ultrasound of brain, bloods, he was startd on meds at 9 months and came off them at 14 months after he was found not to suffer from seizures but hes was found to be caused by silent reflux

apnoeas r normally assciated with sleeping, matthew also has sleep apnoea and spends alot of time in hosp due to him stopping breathing in his sleep

they should refer you to a neurolgist we was referred to great ormond street, they do a complete history on ur dd history then will probbaly arrnage tests like EEG, blood etc

good luck and keep us posted
love natalie

Thanks Natalie - She has these seizure things during the day, she's wide awake. Starts by her hurting herself, she gets upset and then goes into one of these. They thought it was hyperventilating at first but it seems to have progressed.

Will let you know what we hear although it may be a while as you know what the NHS can be like. Insyaing that though they are brilliant with kidsSmile

mm could be breathe holding attacks alot of children do this and cause they hold there breathe is cuts of supply to there brain so they have seizure type episodes

we had to wait about 3 months to see a paed when matthew was 1st referred

if u dont hear in a few weeks ring ur gp to make sure they done the letter, it took my surgery oer 4 weeks to do the referral

also took about 3 months to get seen at GOSH but well worth the wait as they r brillant

good luck

love nat
