Hello All,

Well Im new to these boards so I thought Id share my story with you.
I am a 30 yr old female with 3 children (twins aged 8 & a 4 yr old)
Got diagnosed with gallstones(conf by uss) when I was 24 visiting family in New Zealand, with 2 yr old twins and hubby in tow. The pain as I remember it was excruiciating the worst pain I have ever experienced shooting accross my chest and in between my shoulder blades this lasted overall about a week with painkillers totally eliminating all FAT out of my diet. Oh just to be clear Im no size 0, but average size 14 at this time. Anyway the pain went i was happy carried on. 5 YRS later, still no probs with the stones diet yo -yo ing as normal. Anyway last year I started to get very nauseus/integestion pain mainly after I ate but i would get very anxious about it and basically downed gaviscon and whatever other remedies I had in the meds cupboard! Felt just not right. Anyway to try to cut the story down, about 5 weeks ago had MAJOR ATTACK. Spend first 2 days with a high temp, chills and shivers thought I had a viral infection then bam, pain came in between my chest, top of tummy penetrating to my shoulder blades came in waves got gradually worse until 4 am I couldnt cope so went to the a & e. They did tests striaght away ruled out my heart, tooks bloods which showed I had a bad infection and inflammation in my body, I mentioned 6 yrs earlier similar gallstone pain which I had thought thry had gone, so with USS confirmed this was a definate gallstone attack/gallbladder disease. So i stayed in hospital for 3 days on 2 lots of stong anti biotics, anti sickness and painkillers until under control. Luckily I had private cover so friday just gone I had my gallbladder removed (in the 4 weeks wait I didnt eat any fat at all in diet which eliminated pain and lost 10lbs in weight!) Well since my op post 2 days now I am feeling positive about the future, looking forward to enjoying food again, however I am in slight pain from te op, extremley bloated which Im sure will go down soon and found that I had over 40 pebble like yellow stones and the cons said i needed it out before it gave me serious probs. So for anyone having similar symptoms to what I had pls get checked out the pain is horrendous and wouldnt wish it on anyone.
Id also be interested in comments from anyone who has had this surgery and your feeling post op and if you have had any problems?
Marie

Awaiting an USS this week to confirm that I have gallstones. Low/Zero fat diet helping keep pain at bay after an awful attack the other week where I nearly went to A&E as pain relief we have at home wouldn't touch it.

Had mine done a year ago.

It's fabulous. Only things I have issues with are deep fried food (but I can have in moderation) and cucumber for some reason Confused

Mine was done keyhole and i was pain free the next day. Best thing I've had done and would recommend it.

Hi guys
Thanks for your replies. Well im on day 3 after the op.The pain in the shoulder fronm trapped gas has subsided. I am still uncomfy especially at night cant sleep properly. Have had normal bowel movements since yesterday. Hoping I wont get the runs. Hopefully by the end of the week Ill start to feel better - am already feeling the difference with no gallbladder! My tummy is v v swollen though bloated looking. Hopeully this willl go soon as well! Trying not to take too many painkillers as hate feeling drowsy. Did you have bad runs straight away lottieloulou? Hopefully I can enjoy a glass of wine in a few weeks!

Sod a few weeks; I had wine the night I came home Blush

However, it would appear that I have a reasonably high tolerance to pain so I didn't really need much in the way of painkillers --or it was just such a relief to not be on morphine to try to control the pain 24/7.

Had mine removed 2 years ago but took a 12 week recovery after falling in the fecking snow. It took me about 13 days to feel ok again. But the fall set back my recovery.

I still have to ensure i don't have too much fat but live an almost normal life. Don't puke at everything now either which is a blessing.

Hi I also had my gallbladder out last Friday but did have to go back in on Monday due to severe abdominal pain which resolved and I am now back home. Feeling a bit washed out today but am putting that down to the iv antibiotics I had when I went back in. Yes my stomach still looks much larger than it did before hand. Think there is probably still some gas there, but also remember there is likely to be bruising. Finding it tricky to find anything to where - all my bottoms seem to hang round my tummy button!
