Hiya bubblepo
is that the one where they inject a radioactive dye into your vein and then wait and scan it?. If it is then yes I have had one, and a ct and an mri etc etc. All for my kidneys too! what are you having them checked for if you don't mind me asking. I had mine checked because after 2nd pregnancy with pre eclampsia b.p never went back to normal and they wanted to check my kidneys. Found polycystic kidney disease, I wasn't expecting that I can tell you!!

they are checking me cos i had blood in my urine throughout prgnancy, seemed to have uti symptoms but they never managed to grow anything in the lab. still have blood there at 6 week check and again at 8 weeks.you can't see it though, it just shows up on that dip stick thing that they put in your wee. whats this kidney disease youve got then, and how did they discover it?

Hiya
Oh poor you, being pg is bad enough without all the other complications. My lovely disease is basically supposed to be hereditary, but I appear to be the first in my family! How lucky I am! The kidneys are covered in cysts and causes raised b.p.. Basically there is no cure, the kidneys get taken over by the cysts eventually (well thats in most cases), some plod long with very few problems other than the bp etc. others end in total renal failure, dialysis, transplant etc. You just have to hope the cysts stay less in size and quantity than the kidney bits and that the kidneys keep functioning properly. I have annual checks for this and all seems ok at the mo. My biggest regret is not knowing before having my dds, as I could have passed this to them. Obviously they may not have inherited it but its 50/50 chance.

Hiya
The injection of the dye was no problem t.b.h. The used a very fine needle I think it was called a butterfly? anyone with any medical knowledge will know better than I do!. They injected me in one arm, and then did scan. Are you having a ct scan? The only reason I ask is I had one where they injected, waited two hours and then drew blood out of the other arm and tested it and another was when I had the ct scan. That one (ct) was quite wierd, I went very hot and there was the strangest sensation between my legs where I felt as if I had wet myself!! I hadn't, I promise. LOL Apparently, that is quite a normal reaction though!!

Hiya
Good, I'm glad the experience wasn't as bad as you thought it might be. Our imaginations have a lot to answer for!! Yes, I know what you mean about the "what ifs", my dds were 3 and 6 months when my investigations started and it totally freaked me out tbh. Then it took about 4 years to get a firm diagnosis, apparently my cysts don't look exactly like they would expect them to!, so they took a while and did various tests and eventually lumped me in this catagory. I tend to bury my head in the sand and go along the lines of "I'm well at the moment and that's good", I do however get very nervous about my annual check-up, the what ifs start flooding back in again. I am forunate that my dds are now 12 and 10, so not little any more. Let me know how you get on. Good luck
