Cycling at 35 weeks

Is that a bad idea? Going to CentreParcs next week (the joys of having 3 children) - i'll be around 35 weeks with baby No. 4 currently 2/5ths head engaged. Someone told me cycling at this stage could trigger premature birth. Is this true? Pelvic floor limitations aside, is it acutally dangerous?

Acutally? I meant `actually' dangerous. Could be acute i suppose.....

I still cycled to work at 7 months pregnant (my manager got scared every time he saw me, he must have thought I'd give birth in the car park)! Gave up not long after that though as it got too uncomfortable. Don't think I could/would have cycled at 35 weeks!

I am a keen cyclist and would really not advise as when you are so far on your centre of gravity makes you more likely to fall off!
You are aslo putting alot of pressure on you pusis symphisis and culd give yourself problems.
why not see if they have a recliner type bike.
exersice in pregnancy is absolutely fine if you have been active throughout, this is really no the time to take on new sport though!!!
hope you have a fab holiday!

If you haven't cycled in months I would be very careful about doing it now. Your balance is affected, but no one else can tell you how much, and it's not like you've got gradually gotten used to the change in your balance all this time. You'll be at risk of a fall and it probably wouldn't do any harm, but do you want to take a chance?

If you had been cycling pretty frequently all along I wouldn't think twice and I'd eagerly say keep going on a bike (I cycled right up to days before the birth of all of mine, so did a friend... and so did the midwife who attended the birth of dd!). The consultants at the hospital only complimented me for keeping fit when I cycled to my 34 week scan.

As long as you do it all the way thru I think it's fine, but otherwise, think very carefully.

Thank you all for your counsel. As i am a mere holiday (and very fair weather) type of cyclist, it sounds like i should give it a miss. Didn't realise what an issue the balance loss could be. I was thinking more in terms of accidently breaking the waters or something! Someone has suggested I hire a tricycle, but i think i would rather walk than let my kids see me on one of those.......
