CONTRACEPTION!?!?!?

HIYA, I HAVE 2 LITTLE BOYS AGED 6 AND 2, AND HAVE BEEN READING A LOT OF BAD STUFF ABOUT THE MIRENA COIL, I AM SICK TO DEATH OF THE MINI-PILL, CAN'T TAKE THE COMBINED, BUT WANT SOMETHING THAT I DON'T NEED TO THINK ABOUT TOO OFTEN. ALSO, STERILISATION NOT AN OPTION AS ALTHOUGH I DON'T WANT ANY MORE CHILDREN AT THE MOMENT, I DON'T KNOW HOW I'LL FEEL IN 5 YRS OR SO!!!!!!
HELP!

condoms? a cap [diaphragm] ? I could never get the hang of a cap myself but I'm told its supposed to be easy! You could ask your doctor about it.

Ive got the implant, had it for three months now, with no problems. its the best thing ive dont, no need to remember the pill!!
However, I know its not suited to all people.

why can't you take combined pill? My 1st thought was to recommend Nuvaring, which you just pop up for 3 weeks and have 1 week off. I find it a really practical alternative, had no side effects, don't have to worry about remembering to take anything, easy to check it's still there, only low levels of hormone. ut it might to too similar to combined pill, so don't know. I had bad reactions to C pill, but been fine with nuvaring.

I'M BACK, CAN'T TAKE THE COMBINED COS AFTER I'D HAD MY YOUNGEST, IT STARTED CAUSING ME MIGRAINES!!!!

a diaphragm is a little rubber cap that goes over your cervix. You have to fit it in before you have sex but apparently it is quite easy when you get used to it. Your doctor or surgery nurse should be able to show you for the first time.

NuvaRing isn't available in the UK yet, IIRC.

I can't take the combined pill myself b/c I am over 35 and have a strong history of heart disease and hypertension on my dad's side of the family, w/my first cousin dying of a massive heart attack at 39 most recently.

I wouldn't recommend the cap - very high failure rate & really fiddly . The nuvaring is a plastic ring about 2 mm wide & 2" diameter which you pop up you vagina. You can't feel it, it's really easy. Yes, but if you're in Scotland you're outta luck. No NuvaRing here yet.

Ihave ds 16m and had a copper coil fitted at my 6 week check. Pre pregnancy i never got on with the pill as couldn't remember to take it and after a while started getting depressed and putting on wait so resorted to condoms. After the birth of ds discussed my options with gp. Very happy. no side effects, didn't hurt going in (but maybe because just after birth)! I don't even notice it's there.

is it really not available? What a shame. It's received awards and everything for being the best breakthrough in (contraceptive) medicine & everything. Should try asking just in case.

I just saw a doc at the FPC and it isn't available in the UK yet.

Some expat friends of mine have been trying to get hold of it for ages.

I'd love to have it, b/c progestin-only pill is causing awful, painful cystic acne on my chest, I won't do the copper coil - longer, heavier periods? NO thanks! or the Mirena.

I'm seeing a consultant about having my tubes tied b/c they won't give my husband a vasectomy b/c of his age - he's 28 - b/c I feel I really have no good option when it comes to birth control.

copper coil has made my periods lighter and shorter. however, that could also be a post pregnancy thing!

THANKYOU TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR ADVICE, I'M STILL VERY CONFUSED THOUGH. JUST DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO, WAS REALLY UP FOR THE MIRENA COIL BUT THERE ARE JUST SO MANY PEOPLE SLATING IT THAT I DON'T KNOW, AND ITS A BIG DECISION TO MAKE, BECAUSE AT PRESENT I AM NOT PARTICULARLY SATISFIED WITH MY CONTRACEPTION, ITS JUST SUCH A BIND HAVING TO REMEMBER THE PILL EVERY MORNING!!!!
qUITE INTERESTED IN THE IMPLANT AND THE INJECTION THOUGH, SO MAY WELL GO AND SEE IF MY DOCTOR CAN ENLIGHTEN ME FURTHER ON PROS AND CONS!
THANX AGAIN.

I have to pay privately. It works out at £10 a month, but is not much different to cost of pills. Still, I know in Uk you don't have to pay at all.
