i took the pill from the age of 17 till 28. i stopped taking it to conceive ds. when i came off it it was three months before i had a period, then a month later my next one and then another huge gap before my next one. then i got PG.
ds was 4 months old when i had my first post natal period, a month later i had another and thought brilliant my body is back to normal. but it's now nearly three months and no sign of AF. i've been so busy looking after ds that i've not really thought about it, but this week it's starting to get me down that my body is not doing what it should. am i being impatient or is it likely there is something wrong with me?

yes, go see your GP NOW. you need to be evaluated.

if they give you heat and don't want to know unless you're trying to conceive, just lie and say you are. don't wait until you actually ARE ttc and then have to go thru the entire wait list process. best to nip it in the bud before.

you can always say you changed your mind and decided not to ttc just yet.

But do you want to ttc again or do you just want to be 'normal'? I've always had rirregular periods and never had a problem ttc. It didn't bother me - just saved money on sanitary products!!

not trying to ttc again i have realised i have no libido at all....am wondering whether my hormones are out of whack.
i had been on the pill for so long i have no idea what is 'normal' for me. i wanted to stay off the pill for a while to get to know my body. i think maybe going to my gp sooner rather than later is a good idea. i don't really mind having irregular periods, but contraception wise i'd rather go back on the pill than use condoms and wonder if my period is missing because it just is, or whether we had an 'accident'.

Well I was diagnosed with premature ovarian failure... I think it's good to know at least you know what to do or not do about it.
Missed many periods, hot flushes, mood swings were my symptoms, no libido is one (which wasn't a problem for me)... Hope you get an answer. Usualy it's a couple of blood tests.

Vecrobott - was just searching to post about my hot flushes and discovered your comment. What exactly is ovarian failure? Is it like menopause? I am still breastfeeding and so periods are irregular. Haven't had one for 7 weeks. I have poor libido (putting that down to bf and running round after 14 month DD) Also having hot flushes, they don't last long. Can't say have mood swings. Could it just still be hormones out of balance?

Clure some say POF is the same as premature menopause and others say it's different but it is "roughly" the same.
I do think BF does affect your hormones and so I would not conclude quickly that you have POF. I had hot flushes when I BF and I didn't have POF then.

Small tip queenrollo - I found that the 'infertility' waiting lists at my hospital were MUCH longer than the 'gynae' waiting lists - even though the investigation was for the same problem, ie very irregular periods and wanting to conceive. Try to get your gp to sound out what the waiting lists are at your hospital and get you put on the 'right' list. Oh, and remember that you have a right to be treated at other than your local hospital (knowing this got me a cancellation on one list that saved me around 5 months wait...)
