my 2yo ds fell over and sprained his ankle...........i think.

used the RICE (rest, ice, compression, elevation) practice last night.

not v swollen or bruised, but he wont/cant put any weight on it.

he can move his foot, toes etc and its not bruised. and i bandaged it up.

what would you do?

Take him to A&E , especially if the poor chap can't walk on it, sorry but IMO forget asking MNers, get him to a doctor! Even if there is no sign of swelling. Best be safe rather than sorry.

why can't you get a straight answer these days? Honestly if it were my little boy, who is also 2, I would take him to A&E just to get it checked over and hopefully xrayed.
I hope its nothing serious for him.

i feel i should take him but dont want to waste time if this is jsut what a sprained ankle is like......

ive not had a sprain so im not sure. he is quite happy in himself, jsut not ablel to run around like usual.

you're not wasting their times he's your son and he matters. You'll find it much easier to forget the time you took him to the hospital and nothing was wrong, rather than trying to forget the time you wish you'd taken him as something was wrong!
No one will mind, honest, its better to be safe than sorry!

my eldest did the same thing at around 2, i took him to a&e the next morning and it was a sprain but i have broken my wrist a few times and it wasn't always swollen or bruised. Take lots of things for him to do and his fave teddy if he has one. will be a good chance to teach him about drs if nothing else :) they tend not to strap up sprins now(at least not at my local hospital)

dd did the same at 2 1/2 and was lame for a day or so then fine. She did it again a few weeks ago at 4 1/2 and we did go to A and E the next morning as she was still in obvious pain, despite arnica, pain relief etc and we were due to go skiing a few days later. Apparently the stretched ligaments can cause a small fracture in the foot. They xrayed it, nothing broken but bandaged and nurofen(for both pain relief and anti inflammatory effect) and she was fine again within 48 hours and then skiing a day or so later.

thanks lizs, that has given me hope that i dont have to try and keep him 'quiet' for a long time. he is so active its hard to keep him resting, even though he doesnt want to now,im sure hew'll want 2b running around again soon!
