There is not much that can be done to remove them. People used to belive that you should hit them really hard with a bible! Is it definately a ganglian, they are not usually painful?

They're cysts - sometimes they go away on their own, but if they're painful or causing problems you can have them removed. Have you seen your GP?

They can be very painful sometimes, chapsmum - particularly if they're pressing on a nerve.

Recurrence is high - hence reluctance to treat them in any way - even surgically

i had one a few years ago and it suddenly burst one day and i had a horrid crashing headache and weird blistery thing on my arm (its on my wrist under my thumb - where you would take a pulse). ANyway it came back several months ago but comes and goes many times a day. Also my hand goes numb. Im currently seeing a specialist at the Orthopedic Hospital who says I have classic carpel tunnel and class ganglion which arent connected he thinks but am awaiting nerve tests and ultrasound scan on my wrist - may operate

I had one on my wrist about 5 years ago and it was very, very painful. Driving, getting dressed and many other everyday things were unbearable. Lots of people kept telling me to give it a good whack but I couldn't bring myself to do it. My GP said he'd refer me to have it operated on but the waiting list was 10 months! No way could I wait that long so I got my ex to whack it for me. Yes it hurt - lots - but within a couple of hours it had started to go down, by the end of the next day I was pain-free and [fingers crossed] I've never had any trouble from it since
