A friends DD does (or it is suspected and being treated as such). IIRC slow growth, digestive problems, abdominal pain... stuff like that.

I'm a little vague given that it's second hand information but I think she had a lot of pain when she needed a poo. So much that she would be wiped out afterwards.

She is a completely changed child on a gluten free diet though.

I'm not entirely sure I'm afraid. Now you mention it, I think there may have been issues with iron absorbsion which I would have affected energy levels. I don't know baout pain after eating though, sorry. That's pretty much all I can remember I'm afraid.

It wouldn't cause the mouth ulcers!
Coeliac disease is an intollerance to a protein found in gluten called gliadin. Symptoms include bloodyor dark stools and stomach pain that increases in intesity after a very glutenous meal, ie pasta. It cuases anaemis and folate deficiencies. Still worried?

DDs friend has been diagnosed - she's now 2.8 but I can remember her screaming when being fed as a baby. She used to get really bad stomach pains, alternating constipation and runny tummy. Slept really poorly (I think because of stomach pains). She was also slow to grow.

She also seems a differnet child since being on gluten free diet

any recent weight loss, what size are you and dh? does the pain get worse or better with anything?

Report
Chapsmum · 14/03/2006 13:55

you could ask your gp to check her stools for blood, it is a really simple and quick test, if there's no blood there it is unlikely to be coeliac or crohnes.

Hard to monitor weight, as no scales working i'm afraid. But she has not been eating that much and has definately not gained any weight.
I am small statue, size 14 , but dh is nearly 6ft, very slim build. She is very petite and small boned. larsxx

My ds is having the blood test next month for coeliac. He's type 1 diabetes and I have long suspected he has some digestive problem too.

lars · 14/03/2006 14:00

No, he said he didn't know waht was wrong with her and has referred her to consultant.

Due to her age she rather private about the stool thing and said she seems ok but has been constipated. larsxx

There are so many things in the tummy I would not even guess! However what I would wonder is where is the pain. is it over a specific region? also does anything make the pain worse or better. Finally was here any blood in her stools, odne by a paper test (not just to look at) how old is she again?

you cn do the stool test at home on a peice of paper. Perhaps it would put you mind at rest. Though if she's on iron at the minute it would give a false positive. The constipation in itself will make her sore.

Pain appears tummy area ( midddle ) but she said when we were out shoppping that a pain on a left side was coming on. Pain always appear on the left near colon area. She is also experiencing tiredness, very pale in colour and there is small pigment of white on front teeth which wasn't there a few months ago.
The tummy pain does appear to come on a little while after food or even eating a biscuit.Around 7pm in the evening she starts feeling sometimes unwell. She is 12 in april. larsxx

lars, I could be wron here but think if the pain is coeliac, I think it would be quite severe. The constipation will be causing her discomfort and the anamia will be making her feel tiered, Try flurodix instead of iron supplaments.

She could be anaemic if she has started menstuating. If your worried go back to your gp,If you feel she needs seen now, she can get seen now, so see your gp again

hope this helps
