Did it work and what did you use it for? Need some positive stories before I try it?

hi ggirl

I used hypnotherapy to stop me picking my fingers. Did work completely for about 3 years and has never been as bad as it was originally.
I had regression therapy so the hypnotherapist tried to take me back to the time before I started picking to find out why I started.

I had no bad reaction to any of the sessions and always found them quite relaxing, even though there were some strange things going on Smile

thanks mackenzie,I knew somebody must have used it!

Was thinking of using it for weight loss, but a bit unsure about how effective it would be?

Hi ggirl,

I had hypnotherapy 15 years ago to overcome panic attacks caused by stress, it worked like a dream and I still use the techniques I learned back then to calm myself down when I need to.

Following 20 years of v v heavy smoking I had 4 hours of hypnotherapy & left as a non-smoker - I have never smoked since & barely ever think about it - so I can recommend it for that. The downside was that I did put on 2 stone (boo) & when I called the same hypnotherapist he said it would take a lot longer (about 6 sessions) to help with the weight loss problem as you do need to eat in life but no-one actually needs to smoke....! But I think it could help & if def worth trying if you're keen. Good luck!

Hi ggirl. I had hypnosis during my fourth pregnancy to try to deal with feelings of abandonment and being unsupported (mainly by my mother). It was pretty good. After just one session I came away with a new tool in my emotional problem solving repertoire which I've used a couple of times since to good effect.

Good luck.

I also know of someone (secondhand) who had hypnotherapy to help him stop smoking. He was very sceptical and didn't think it would work, right up until the end of the first session. Then when he got up off the couch he discovered he had been lying awkwardly on his finger and had in fact broken it - but not felt the pain whilst he was "under". That was enough to convince him that it worked and he never touched another cigarette again!

GGirl - I tried the Paul Mckenna CD & book - inspriational but you have to lie down & listen to the CD to re-programme your mind every day & I was just lying down & falling asleep every day - needless to say it has done nothing for me. But at least I can taste my food now!

I had some last week, I don't know if it's too soon to start talking, I had some last week because I tend to loose the thread of conversation because I get overly concerned about my English language skills. It's working wonderfully, less problem and as a bonus I feel far more relaxed about things. Started a new job this week and I didn't even got anxious about the first day of work, it was as if I had been working in the place forever. So, it may work :)

It would focus the mind! £300 is about a months worth of groceries, perhaps buying less food in order to save up the money would have a double benefit.....! I don't know about you but I am sooooo cross with myself for putting this weight on, losing the baby weight is hard enough without doing something good (stopping smoking) and then being punished for your efforts by carring round the equivilant weight of a toddler in lard! GGGRRRRR

I paid £50 per session (had two, but then, it's a y e a r s old problem). I was told they were charging more because such a personalised session could take longer than average (as for stop smoking sessions). But I was very pleased, the woman (hypnotist) was amazing, she forgot my file home on the second session and managed to recite every single thing I had told her one week before word by word. The curious thing is your are perfectly concious and can apreciate hot the things are improving even while you are at the session.

hot=how

Obviously the session was to helpo me loose my fear of talking rather than for correcting my typing and grammar Wink

£50 quid per session sounds about right to me chandra.Did you just pick her name from the phone book?how'd you find her?

Springsprung--I know it's so annoying,I can remember thinking when I was planning on giving up that I wouldn't be one of those sad people who gain weight when they give up!Little did I realise.

Now I think my life will be perfect when I lose weightWinkho hum

I have had hypnosis for a phobia and for teeth grinding and have found it really helpful.

My friend went to the same person to stop smoking and did overnight, and my mum seen her for weight loss and lost 2 and a half stones in 4 months.

She is really quite good Grin
