Teething or bug?

DD (8mths) has been sick only at night for the past week and has horrendous nappies that she is getting changed constantly. She is otherwise happy and playing away. I took her to the gp just to check her over and she is fine but they said she had a bug and to starve her Shock I dont think I could handle doing that to her and as she is not upset I dont want to create a grumpy baby too! I first thought it was teething as her cheeks are red but she isnt hot? Her nappies stink to high heaven!!!! Just wondering if anyone has any advice on what to do as I am more upset than DD Blush

Does it last long? She wanst like that for her bottom 2 teeth? I'm not sure what to feed her as it seems to just run out the other end but she's a hungry bubba? Do you think I should just give her bottles?

yeah carry on with the bottles and give her bland foods too... eg scrambled egg, or toasts etc and try give her some water too

mine lasted for average 1.5 weeks

Hi Ladies, Changing the subject only v slightly....worried about my dd (8mths)..been thinking for long time now that she's teething but still no teeth????? def showing signs (really rosy cheeks some days, upset tummy, biting anything she can get in her mouth, dribbling to name a few). Just wanted some advice as yest morning when changing her bottom she has v v sore bum, really concerned cos it looks horrid and is sore (odd though cos happened overnight?). Been using sudocrem and kept her nappy free as long as I could too. Was told to put egg white on bottom???? Anyone heard this old wives tale before or have any advice...also is this sure sign a tooth is on its way?????????? x

Hi Fiz

Never heard of egg white!! Def sounds as if teethypegs are on their way - can you see anything? I though DD first teeth took ages to come through and they came 2 at a time so fingers crossed for future teeth Grin the last two weeks were the worst. She was in agony at nights, waking up screaming towards the last few days and her bum too was horrid. I just had to makes sure I dried with cotton wool after wiping then sudocrem but if its really bad it may be time to go back to warm water and cotton wool till its better - not ideal if she has a runny bum mind. Sorry if not much help - I found it really upsetting as theres not much you can do but wait till the little blighters come through.

hiya Fiz - yep that is all the signs of teething as mine had her fists in her mouth permantly and dribbling from age 3mths and her first tooth came thru at 6mths... and one time she had a severe nappy rash (looks like someone spilt a hot cuppa over her privates - ouch!)... everyone on mumsnets recommended Metanium - its so fab as its a cream barrier to put over the nappy rash for it to heal.. only needs a tiny blob on it and its a miracle!!

Oh thanks ladies, you've been a great help Smile. I have been using cotton wool n water instead of wipes. Hopefully, we'll see a tooth soon eh?! (although I seem to have been saying that for quite a while now!!!!) my p seems to think I've been saying dd is teething since she was born!! Keep trying to have a look but everytime I go anywhere near her mouth she tries to eat my fingers!!!! Bless her!!! I've been using sudocrem and will continue with it, but while bottom is so sore I will give the barrier cream a go. Can I get it from most chemists??? Is it normal to just come on that quick and severe though??? x
