HELP
i am at my wits end with my 5y dd2. she has never been a good eater but just recently she has stopped liking everything.
she has a pack up for school and geneally has -
sarnies
crisps
yogurt
fruit
choc biscuit
drink

she has been coming home with almost a full lunch box. i am the kind of mother that normally says eat what your given but she wont eat anything. i have tried

ham
cheese
jam
chicken
chocolate spread
sarnie pastes
sausages
tuna

she says everyday what she wants and we give it to her . letting her have the choice. when she comes home and we ask her why she hasnt eaten her lunch she tells us that she doesnt like * anymore?????????
she wont eat
salad
veg
any sauces
nothing spices or with peppers
pasta

she has plenty of time to eat so i know that isnt a problem. she will eat half a bag of crisps and 1 bite of sandwich and a sip of her drink . she wont even et her choccie?

i just need some ideas for anything else i could try or advice of trying to get her to eat some of the things she doesnt like (salad etc)
i feel like she will waste away . she comes home hungry and i try to tell her if she eats her lunch then she wont be so hungry when she comes home from school
please help

just wondering if she can open all the packaging? Does she get more playtime if she doesn't eat it?or is she the sort of girl that will spend ages chatting..

I hope you won't think I'm being horrid, but I would actually ditch the crisps and the chocolate biscuit. I reckon that that half-packet of crisps takes the edge off her appetite enough that she doesn't then feel hungry, so she doesn't bother to eat the rest. I really think that for a five year old, sandwiches made with two rounds of bread, a yogurt, a piece of fruit and a drink is plenty.

If she really won't eat sandwiches, how about e.g. buttered rice cakes, or a little tub of hummus and some breadsticks?

I would cut the lunch box down to sandwiches and fruit, saying when she shows she can eat that then gets back the extras.

My DS is allowed choc spread once a week

How about mini pitta's. Grated cheese or ham in those is easy. Or mini wraps

Sometimes we make our own "Lunchable" and DS takes crackers (wrapped in tin foil) + slices of cheese & ham. He LOVES this. Would crackers/crackerbread work?

agree with milliways

a sandwich and some fruit. when that gets eaten try other things

dd1 is 6 and has a small sandwich, some cut up strawberries and cherries, some carrot and cucumber (look she likes raw veg ok) and a plain biscuit.

Then she stuffs her face (hallelujah) when she gets home.

crisps and choc banned from ds school. Would she like a fajita style wrap with ham and salad or cheese in. makes a nice change

bread sticks are also a winner... enif(d) ds will only eat carrot raw

do you think that i should just give her sarnies and yoghurt and drink then? i have obviously been expecting her to eat to much

What about just bread and butter with a little pot of ham, cheese.
breadsticks/pitta and a dip.
Cold pizza
hard boiled eggs chopped with mayo or salad cream sandwich.
Pork Pie

How long do they get to eat their lunch? My ds gets 12 minutes so giving him loads is pointless as I know he's quite a slow eater. It would easily take him that to eat just a bag of crisps.
I give him 1 slice of bread into 2 little sandwiches, a drinking yoghurt (quicker and sometimes less messy than normal yoghurt) and a biscuit. He has 2 x fruit snacks for AM and pM breaks and also a good healthy meal when he gets home.

My dd sometimes take cheese and crackers or french bread (made up by me, not those lunchables you can buy). She likes a few pickles with it (olives or an onion) and a bit of salad.

What about a homemade pasty? Maybe she's a bit bored with sandwiches?

If she's anything like DS2 (5.8) then she's probably too busy chatting to her friends to eat!

I agree with the others about cutting out the extras. DSs know that sandwich and fruit are compulsory, if they eat the other bits and leave those then they only have sandwich and fruit the next day.

doesnt like marmite and i think she may be bored with sarnies. i sometimes used to give her pittas filled with cheese or tuna mayo but she then decided she didnt like them any more either

My 10 year old dd is still a pain about packed lunches. Doesn't like sandwiches. At the moment she has mini amounts of stuff and it's working - a few mini breadsticks, mini chicken satays (or plain bits of chicken)or sausages or mini home made sausage rolls, mini flapjack... it helps if she's made some of it. She doesn't get crisps or cake. The tiny amounts seem to work for her.
