Does anyone else have a baby born with ear tags & has had them removed? How was your baby after the op? Or have they fallen off by themselves?

don't know about ear tags but dd has one on each hand (and they both have a small nail!). her's have still not been removed and she's 20 months old. although this is partly due to her having other problems with her health and me requesting that whilst she's under anaesthetic to get the more important problems fixed that her tags get removed at the same time and there's never a plastic surgeon free at the time (all they need is a cut and stitch and i can't see why it has to be done by a plastic surgeon).

Does your daughter fiddle with the tags? Don't think my son knows his are there.

You are right - don't know why it has to be a plastic surgeon.

Good luck with her various health issues - hope the 2 of you aren't suffering too much

yeah she flicks them! she pulls at her other fingers and i hope she doesn't try to pull them off. i was so scared of them falling off when she was first born but now i wish they had. in the old days they used to tie them with cotton to stop the blood flowing to them but it leaves a slight bump and there's a slight chance of infection so that's why they don't do it these days.

Yes that's what I heard. I'd like them removed before he goes to school so other kids don't poke fun at him, but am worried about anaesthetic. Plastic surgeon said it will be when he's about 1. Hopefully not the day of his party!
