Woke up this morning, yawned and my jaw clicked and was immediately painful around right jaw joint. I can close my mouth and talk but my speech has occasionally been muffled today, I can't open my mouth very much and have just tried to eat a soft meal but unable to eat anything (haven't been able to eat all day).

I am tempted to visit A&E just because I'm so bloody hungry and want to be able to eat something! But suspect this isn't really an a&e thing and I should wait to see my dentist on Monday.

What is the reasonable thing to do, do you think?

I only work for a dentist. But I would say visit A and E because to me ot sounds like you have dislocated your jaw.

Thanks Fanjo. I went to A&E today and you were right; it was dislocated. Was put back in and I was sent home but it has come out again (doing nothing more than talking to my children - that was enough to dislocate it again). Will go back again tomorrow but was wondering if you know what the next step might be. Also, was refused anaesthesia for the procedure as told it is ineffective. Was wondering if that is right? Not looking forward to going back tomorrow knowing what is ahead of me.

DH is a dentist, he says this is caused by grinding and you need to see a dentist who specialises in jaw joint problems. He advises you will need a splint to wear and you should speak to your local dentists to see who can help.

I don't know, I'm sorry, I would imagine they could do.something to keep it in place but not sure what it would be. Sorry it wasn't easily fixed and I.hope it's sorted out tomorrow, sounds awful. I don't know about the anaesthesia bit either, I hope there.is a dentist or doctor reading who can help.

I mean, yes , that will be needed in long term but she wants it fixed now.
