dd (3) has been ill for 3 days and now has a high temparature and very sensitive skin

dd has been out of sorts for the past 3 days, complaining of tummy ache and a sore throat. Her throat looks fine and she has been emptying her bowels ok until tonight when she strained for about 20minutes. Her temparature was 38.5 last night and is 38.9 now (but she has been under her duvet for 2 hours).

I'm half inclined to think she is just worn out having started a new nursery for longer hours this week but became a little more worried when she started to flinch every time I touched her skin, even lightly.

She's now sobbing in bed again and saying she feels funny.

Should I be worried or wait until the morning to see how she is?

That's what I think and go to dial them and then she seems to calm down - she's now singing in her bed. dh has just been in and she says she has a headache.

Think I'll give them a call but they'll probably just tell me to see how she is in the morning.

does she have any other symptoms? cold hands/feet? drowsiness? sensitive to light?

lots going around at moment-ds had temp over 40,GP diagnosed flu.
Make sure she is drinking plenty,would def see GP

Her body is really hot to the touch and her feet are freezing. even having been under the duvet since 7 O'clock

i've had a little read on nhs direct and it sounds like she could have an infection (somewhere!)
infections are often a cause of fever in children apparently and can cause the symptoms you describe

She's eaten well today and has been drinking lots of water - more than usual on the water side

god galaxy, i rteally don't want to scare you, but maybe you're already thinking the same

that is one of the symptoms of meningitis. i feel really awful even putting it.... BUT, if you even THINK it could be it then take her down to a&e

likelihood is that it ISN'T meningitis, but so much better to be on the safe side

Would still get her checked-i left it for 4 days with ds(thinking he will be well the next morning)

definately best to get it checked out, symptoms could be consistant with a urinary tract infection, I used to have the same when i was younger,sometimes I would only get the skin symptoms
Definately needs to see a dr asap though.

She's just shouted at me to leave her alone so she's lucid which NHS Direct thought was a good sign.

She had a UTI about 18 months ago so that's my thinking. Temparature is back down to 36.7 now. She says her legs don't hurt anymore. I'm reluctant to drag her to the hospital at this stage - it'll just add to her trauma. Think maybe, she's got over-heated and we've panicked a bit

I do dispair at them sometimes!! She is not obviously not well and needs to see a dr, it would be a very very bad sign if she was not lucid!!
