Loosing weight... would you be worried?

In the past 48 hours i have lost over 3Ib

i only know cause 2 days ago i weighed myself randomly (all my trousers were getting too big) and i was about 3Ib less than normal (but my weight fluctuates by a few Ibs anyway) so i could argue that i was about the lightest of my normal range.

The past few days i have felt a bit 'funny'... dont really know how to explain it, maybe a bit giddy or light headed but not ill, tho not right either.

Having weighed mysefl this morning i have found ive lost 3 more pounds which i find inexplicable!
I have eaten loads (as i always do), i eat with the kids so have full fat everything etc etc, and on tuesday night i ate a nearly a whole pack of iced buns and me and my charges have made cakes so ive had cake mix and the cakes etc.... IN ADDITION TO my my normal meals / biscuits / snacks etc!

I just cant belive ive lost another 3Ib (we have really accurate scales and conincides with allmost trousers falling down so i know i have!)

Also the weight i am TODAY would typically the weight i get down too if im VERY careful about what i eat for a good 3 4 - 6 weeks (by which timne im normlly bored being careful and go back up those few pounds again!)

Normally Id be delighted to have lost a few Ibs, BUT i cant explain it, and feeling "funny" is making me wonder if something is wrong!

I would suggest you go and see your GP and ask him to check your thyroid levels. One of the most common simptoms of an overactive thyroid are very sudden and drastic weight loss, coupled with increased appetite. other simptoms can include palpitations, nausia, dizzyness, no periods, hair loss .. but some of these simptoms don't occur until later. good luck

You're not really thirsty and drinking loads? Diabetes can also cause unexplained weight loss.

I agree with wanna, it's worth getting a GP appointment, there may well be something wrong.

thats what i thought.... ys i have been drinking quite alot actually... probably about 3 litres a day... BUT part of that was my news years resolution to drink enough, so id recently been making myself drink about a litre in the evening.

Other than that ive just been REALLY tired.

I was tested for diabetes about 10 years ago and it was negative!

Tired fits with diabetes, dunno about thyroid. Are you needing to get up in the night to pee, all of a sudden?

Either way, I'd get yourself to the GP asap. Diabetes is easy to test for, as is thyroid function (I think).

yes tired fits are simptomatic of thyroid as well, as is being thirsty, and hotter than normal?

NannyL, it sounds like it could be diabetes to me too, have you had thrush recently, blurry vision, dry skin? Your sugar intake sounds very high for a normal diet as well. I think you should ask for an immediate appointment with your GP as it is very important that diabetes is ruled out quickly if you are driving a car every day. ood luck and let us know!

Please call to make a doctor's appointment today? You might not get one today, but at least you'll have one early next week.

I don't know anything about thyroid problems, but untreated diabetes has some really nasty effects, including blindness, losing limbs, passing out, etc etc.
