If you get food poisoning how long between eating the dodgy food and the symptoms appearing? And how do you know if you have food poisoning or a stomach bug?

Why, what have you eaten? It can be a day or 2 and I don't think you can tell the difference other than food poisoning tends to go on for longer and is potentially more serious - i.e. salmonella. You can only really tell I guess if you send a sample off and it's anaylsed.

I've only had food poisoning once, salmonella, and I reckon it was a day and a half ish after we'd eaten the stuff. Having said that, you never know absolutely for sure what's caused it unless environmental health go and find it. So I could be v wrong! I am no expert so should probably shut up!

Shellfish poisoning, such as from oysters, can take up to 2 days to materialise.

In our case it was either the pub over the road at the time (in Devon) or pick n mix from a cinema in Plymouth. I was voting for the pick n mix on the basis that lots of grubby hands could have been in the sweets. Ugh, makes me feel horrible just thinking about it! Environmental health did confirm salmonella but didn't go and find the source, I don't think they could be bothered! And we were both on the mend by the time they confirmed it (I was pregnant and all was ok).

Not me. DH has invited a friend over who has had stomach cramps and diarrhoea for the last 24 hours! Everyone in his house has got it apparently after a visit to one of their friends which is why he thinks it is food poisoning but I am not so sure!

Ooooo. nasty!

Have come to the conclusion DH's friend must have a bug then. He asked to hold the baby. I (very politely) said 'No'. Was that mean of me!?
