probiotics for 1 yr old?

My 1 yr old ds is currently on a course of amoxicillin following a cough that became a cold that became vomiting. He finishes the course in a couple of days and I was considering giving him a probiotic to boost the bacteria in his gut and his immune system. I have no idea whether this is advisable for a child so young and if it is what is the most suitable way? Can anyone give me some advise, I would be very grateful!

Yes, babies can have probiotics from birth - and do in mothers milk.

I use powder in pureed fruit.

Hi,

I am not breastfeeding anymore. Where do you buy powders from?
I am only really aware of things like yakult etc.

this will give you all the info

we use the Biocare one that she mentions, it's really good, has made amazing difference to DS, he's gone from having colds all the times to hardly ever having them.

Solgar ABCdophilus

this is the one were use. It comes in a powder which you add to milk/formula/yoghurt and is completly tasteless. only need 1/4 or 1/2 teaspoon.
give at a different time of day to antibiotics (or they will be destroyed immediatly by the ab's!)

Higher Nature and Biocare also do a good one for infants.

My dd2 has been taking the bifido bacterium infantis from Biocare and I'm sure it has made a real difference to her. Definitely worth a try!

by the way, i think all the brands mentioned are only available from good health shops, dont think the likes of holland and barrett do them.

or you can get them online on various www
